Just came back from the mother-in-laws house. I had installed a T5 for her awhile back and it has been working fine.
Today she changed her DSL to a wireless setup from the same provider and of course they changed her modem. The T5 was connected to the old modem by ethernet so all I did was plug the ethernet into the new modem but now we have no TV.
Any ideas to help me?

Reboot the T5. See if that works.

Go into network settings on T5 and make sure it's set to DHCP not STATIC, you may have to reboot router/modem/T5 etc.
You want the router/modem to give/assign the T5 a IP.

I had checked all the connections, powered off/on the T5 and modem and no change. It is set for DHCP.

I don't believe you can go wireless with the T5. I'm using a wifi extender.

Could be in the modem settings. Look for QoS which means quality of service in the modem settings. Set your main device that you are using to the highest priority.

I was thinking it might be something in the modem settings... I'm not too knowledgeable about the settings but I'll take a look. It might be a couple of days before I can get back to her house to check it.

By chance could the Ethernet cable be plugged into wrong port on modem/router ?

I haven't been back there yet but I did try two ports - it has four ports, I thought they were all the same?????
The led comes on when I plug in the cable...

Not all the same, some modem/routers have additional ports for phone line hookup & others etc.
The ones you want to be plugged into are usually numbered 1-8 for example.

It has four ports plus a phone port. I had tried port 1 and 4.

This morning I looked at this problem again.
I can't see any issues with modem settings.
The ethernet is plugged in, I tried different ports, tried a new cat 6 cable. Checked the network settings in the T5 and it says server is connected.
Satellite signal is strong, code expiry date is next year.
I'm stuck....

I can try that next time I go to her house but why would it need to rescan? I still have all the channels showing in the guide.

North or South birds ? If you can access the Guide & actually see the Channels listed on TV screen, then I would say your GOOD-TO-GO, put the T5 on a Channel you know is Good, let it sit there for a bit, may take a bit for the Channel to POP in.

It sat there for a few days and didn't pop in.....
(North only)
Did you try more than one channel? A few HD are down right now on North. Try both SD and HD and confirm you signal for that channel says the correct sat, rule of thumb is SD = 91 HD = 82 on most channels (not all).
Also check channel 195 it's FTA make sure it works.

Are you able to log into the Modem/Router there, if so you can try a RELEASE/RENEW on it, what it will do is
establish a new connection from your internet provider, also while logged in to Modem/Router check to see if it
is set to DHCP & nothing set for blocking IP's or Mac. Addresses etc. Also in T5 network settings, if set to DHCP
it should fill in all the headings/blanks with #'s (means modem see's it & assigned a IP ADDRESS)
When it displays server is connected, you should be Golden ? I don't know what else to suggest for your problem

As soon as I can get back there I'll check out your ideas and report back.

maybe bring the box to your house and try it there.. just to see if it works at ur place.
if it works then I'm guessing its a router issue!
good luck on this game.
all about testing

Just to update... I did a rescan and got the channels working. Don't know why it needed a rescan but all is good now.
Thanks guys!
