Dreamlink T5 and constant blackouts

Happy new year 2021 to everyone still perusing these pages.

Now on the eve of renewing a seven-month commitment to Sat9182, I wonder if anyone found a cure for the very annoying HDMI blackouts that plague the T5.

As most of you know or have experienced by now, the T5 suffers from intermittent blackouts when set to 10801 or 720p due to HDCP not being handled right. But lately it seems to be getting worse and I refuse to believe that aging components cause this.

For a while, I had a little HDMI audio return channel black box that I would put in between the T5 and the TV that would eliminate these blackouts but the fix doesn't apply anymore so I beg to ask, does anyone know of a little HDMI matrix box, or whatever else box that you can put in the line that takes care of the blackouts as I don't want to stare at my new OLED TV watching 480p (a resolution low enough to bypass HDCP).

it might not be what you're looking for but i have had many problems with these boxes and all boil down to a bad power supply from freezing to low quality or no signal changing the power supply fixed these problems i just bout a couple 12v 3amp power supply and seem to work fine. to me it seems the 2 amps that come with them as strange as it sounds lose their power. hope it helps :D

If your tv provides for it,just use the composite & optical, or composite & rca.No major difference in video quality.The hdmi on the dreamlinks is a sore spot for sure

Well, this may not be what I'm looking for (but then again maybe it is). I just didn't give it any thought. The cheap switching PS on just about every other gadget I own needs to be changed at some point and given that this T5 has been running straight since 2014 could be an indication.

I don't remember noticing this in the early years and given that its's now worse and worse, well. I'll give a new PS a try.

And to the other poster, thanks for your advice but reverting to Composite is out of the question and using Component 1080i yields a greenish picture with poor blacks so I'd very like to stay away from it.

The Bad HDMI port on the T5's is a known "PROBLEM" Like The Noof mentioned, there must of been a bad Batch of T4-5's
made with it cause I to have one with the same issue. The only way around it (and I tried them all) was to hookup
with a Component/composite setup, which fixed it period.

Well, so far I've replaced the original wallwart (PS) with a [email protected] charger that appears to reduce the blackouts although they are still there. I will therefore unwillingly revert to Component for...

Had the same black out off/on screen problem, unplugged the HDMI from box while in use for about 3 min....never had the issue since.

I may have found a solution for some of you:I had a few in our group with the blackout/no hdmi output problem.If you are watching North, load the 105 file instead of the 106 file.I was able to get 2 problem units working properly by doing so.Worth a try, & it's reversible.

Still having the same blackouts with 105 but unplugging the hdmi for 3 min and plugging it back in seems to have helped, all good for hrs now.
Edit: ok still doing the blackouts but not as bad.

Another "for the record"...I just bought a new LG OLED tv to replace a failed Panasonic led:the other 2 units I have with the hdmi issue work PERFECT with the new tv.When I try them on the other 2 Panasonic tvs I have, they blackout constantly.Maybe a hdmi/hdcp handshake issue with the Panasonics???In either case,problem solved for me.105 & 106 bins working the same.

I purchased one of these which Fix my Blackout problem, other thing is if you are using more than 1-HDMI CABLE
Make sure they match in "SPEC'S" For the equipment your using.

I know this is old but love this box too much to give it up. I know that if you want to get rid of the flickering permanently you need to use composite. so with my t5 i have replaced the port itself and that fixed my problem but with my old port installed i did notice that if i unplugged my hdmi cord just a little bit and pushed down on it the blackout problem would go away completely. so i changed out just the port and the problem hasn’t been back for a long time now.
