Which router to buy Router Buy To Accept IPTV and VPN

Is it the best to take a VPN or not...

The router, Which router to buy, I want to buy
1. ASUS RT-AC68U because no expensive...

2. ASUS RT-AC88U because there are 8 port...

Does somebody can suggest me and how to program it..

I'd say look into the tomato routers

Where you put the vpn right into the router
Then when any device connects to it there all behind the vpn

I'd say any Asus router which is supported by the Merlin firmware line.

Merlin firmware can be flashed easily over the stock firmware, with no jumping through hoops, and you can always go back to stock easily if you need. They support all sorts of features, including QoS, VPN client and server, and for me at least they have been super stable.

And for 95% of the people, the default settings are perfect.

Considering WifI 6 has been around now for a little while, I'd future proof my purchase by buying one of the cheaper "AX" routers, like the RT-AX56U if budget is a concern. It's cheap, yet a lot newer that the older AC series.

Anyhow, just my opinion.

There are forum for reading as how to flashed 3rd party firmware onto the routers. I found out that the dd-wrt firmware is very forgiving and do not usually brick the routers, in case something goes wrong. However, one must do a lot of research before doing any flashing.

I like dd-wrt and used to use it with my old linksys routers (not sure I'd ever buy any of the new ones). But this is why I stuck with Merlin firmware. It offers nearly everything dd-wrt offers (that most people want including openvpn and PPTP), and since it is based on the asus stock firmware, there is nothing special that needs to be done to flash to and from merlin and stock. You can do it directly from the web interface using same stock procedure. And it is available on newer models, since the list you provided is for units that are already a few years old.

Nice choice of box. You can look at the server discusser group and choose one of the resellers, and pick up a month on some of the various services, and see which one suits you best. Some even offer short trials. PM the various resellers advertising, and see what they offer. There are many out there (ok3, ok2, wicked, tiger, diablo, and the list goes on....). There is no Perfect server. But some are better than others. And it all depends on your preferences.

For the AC88U, it is a nice unit, but it is getting old. I would not be surprised to see ASUS retire that model by years end. I would stick with one of the AX series at this time. I know the AX88U is a little more expensive than the AC88U. But if you want to get a little cheaper, you can go with the AX56 or AX58U and just add a small network switch to get more ports.

The AX series, support WiFi 6, WPA3, and quite a few other new features. Not sure I'd buy an AC unit right now. If you already have an AC model, it is great and maybe no reason to upgrade (if you don't need anything more). But buying it new today, I'd spend a little bit more to futureproof it a little. And if you don't want to get the AX88U (it is pricy), the AX56U and AX58U will do the job and just add a small ethernet switch for additional ports.
