that area is still "hot" from nucular radiation i'm told, but what is surprising is the number of roads all over the place, some one is still taking rad readings

Not really that radioactive as they give tours of the area, the big crater is call the "Sedan" crater, you can look down into it from a viewing platform.

It's 330 feet deep by 1280 feet wide, they were thinking of using nuke's to dig a new sea level Panama canal, but after this test they dropped the idea as too dangerous.

Area 51 is just a bit North East of this location, all the testing in this location affected the areas downwind with fallout.(area 51)

Monument Valley Utah saw a great deal of the radioactive dust from these tests, quite a few old time cowboy movies were shot in Monument Valley, John Wayne was supposedly affected by lung cancer from shooting movies during the testing, this has not been proven or confirmed.

According to the National Cancer Institute, the U.S. population was exposed to a total dose of 4,000,000 Person-Sievert of iodine-131 through the nuclear weapon tests in Nevada – about 500 times the total radiation dose of Chernobyl (7,300 PSv).

Since 1945, more than 2,476 nuclear explosive tests have been carried out around the world. The United States has detonated the most explosions—1,127. The Soviet Union is second with 726 tests.

Only two have been used in war.

Some good reading:

All the bright flashy signs on the Las Vegas strip is just a cover so the people don't see the area glowing from all the radiation. :tehe:
