FILE – In this Aug. 14, 2021, file photo, houseboats rest in a channel at Lake Oroville State Recreation Area in Butte County, Calif. At the time of this photo, the reservoir was at 24 percent of capacity and 34 percent of its historical average. A major Southern California water agency has declared a water supply alert for the first time in seven years, Tuesday, Aug. 17, and is asking residents to voluntarily conserve. Lake Oroville has dropped about 5-1/2 feet since this photo was taken, if it continues to drop like that, those boats will be sitting in some very sticky mud, once that happens good luck trying to re-float them.
The river bottom (Lake channel bottom) mud and silt will act like glue, the suction from the mud on the pontoons will make re-floating very difficult, we had one stuck in mud once, had to use fire hoses to get it out, imagine trying to do that to all those boats, hope they move them to deeper water....Mine (on my lake here) was moved to what we call a drought line, it's in the deepest part of the lake.

When the lake here gets too low you can't launch a boat to go out to your house boat, you could swim or use an inflatable, but that's almost two miles, and they still want the monthly mooring fees, but why you cant use the boat like normal, also you have to pay a luxury and property tax on the house boat, fence or not....I tried to argue with the county tax assessor about the fact that the boat is not sitting on a piece of property, (land) so why would I have to pay a property tax on it like a house? They almost threw me out of the building.
property tax on a houseboat? ...lol

Yup. 1900$ a year, it's considered a second home.
