The shortest distance across the strait, at approximately 21 miles, is from the South Foreland, northeast of Dover in the English county of Kent, to Cap Gris Nez, a cape near to Calais in the French département of Pas-de-Calais. I live in Calais, you definitely see English coast from here, but never that big (only in a sunny/cloudless sky). This picture is definitely taken with a zoom lens. But this is a very nice picture though. C/P
