And perhaps the most important info on the sidewall is left off this chart: The date of manufacture, which tells you how old a tire is. Most manufacturers suggest replacement at 6 years otherwise you run the risk of a blowout from dry rot or age related deterioration.
It's a 12 digit DOT number stamped (usually) on only one side. The last 4 digits tell you the week and year of manufacture. Example: DOT xx xx xxxx 2613 - the tire was manufactured on the 26th week of 2013.
If you are not careful, you could be buying "brand new" tires that are 4 years old (tirerack got me like that once).
