This is op's uncle. His friend Hannah took the photo. Schoep (his dog) passed away a few years after this photo was taken. He was twenty years old. My Uncle John saved him from an abusive home at 8 months old and later, Schoep saved John’s life (mental health). John’s love for Schoep was larger than I think some people experience in their life time.
Cool news: People saw this photo, heard the story, and sent donations to help my uncle pay for Schoep’s health care. He was able to get laser treatments for schoep’s arthritis, which is how Schoep survived (in comfort) for a few more years. The rest of the donations went to other families that could not pay for their dog’s medical care. This photo going viral brought my family member so much support and love and joy and allowed him to give to others in difficult situations.
