My remote started screwing up tonight too on my XRS4900. Takes two to three times for buttons to work. Batteries are new. I'll report back in the morning...didn't do any updates.

I did that but it didn't help. I decided to do an erase. That worked. Remote is now working like it's supposed to.

Strange? I had same thing on an XRS4900 also. Screwed around and it's working now...not sure what I did.

with my xrs4900 remote I used to think it sucked the batteries dry in a real short time.
Instead take the batteries right out of the remote and then reinsert them and the remote will work again.
Not sure how many good batteries I have thrown out until I figured this out lol.

I also went with rechargeables after you said that a while ago. I also quit using the backlight which did make a big difference.

Universal battery tester is a great thing to have. Less than $10 and tests all dry cell batteries.
