In 1932, Ebenezer McBurney Byers consumed a radioactive medicine called Radithor, as prescribed by his Doctor for his former polo injury. Hoping for a cure, he consumed a large amount of it, not realizing the dangers.
The radiation from Radithor caused his bones to disintegrate and weakened his immune system, leading to infections. Despite seeking medical help, Byers died from radiation poisoning.
'Scientists learned the radium found in Radithor had a half-life of 1,600 years. This means that it would take 1,600 years for 50% of radium to lose its radioactive properties. Per this finding, it would take centuries for Eben Dyer's body to no longer be radioactive.'
