It's a gold certificate, it's worth 100,000 dollars in gold, they were used for inter-bank transfers, gold was worth $35 an ounce back in 1934, if bank A owed bank B a ton of money due to some big purchase, (bank B owned a big building, and some customer from bank A bought it) they would send one (or more) of these notes to bank B, it was easier then transporting 2857 ounces of gold or bags of $100 dollar bills.
My Uncle was a banker, he showed me a $50,000 bill, (Wilson on it again) he explained why they had such big bills, this was before the use of wire transfers.
I saw a 1,000 dollar bill once , never saw another

Due to inflation and the devalued dollar, they are thinking of starting to use $500 dollar bills, as a 100 bucks doesn't go very far now days.
1/2 a cart of grocery's, maybe a tank of gas.
