It's sometimes very hard to gage progress. There are some of the early versions of those cars still in service.I don't think a new Corolla will be on the road 25 years from now.

Well certainly if they do, I have never been contacted about replacing the Airbags.

"See" being an operative word.Changed a great deal beyond eyesight though.Complicated CVT & 6/8 speed transmissions, small displacement turbocharged engines with complex engine management, as well as...

Weather they were Stromberg or SU, they were finicky.

I still prefer the OLDER Models, those you could work on Yourself, with today's cars with all the computer electronics
they are just about impossible to work on without the electronic equipment needed.

I did a lot of Weber conversions at my shop for my customers

And add to that they're all very proprietary. You need at least 3 very good scan tools to service a variety of cars, or 1 very good scan tool to service your own car."Code readers" are little to no use to anyone with a complex diagnosis issue. The tools need to be 2 way as well as stream live data and do capture also. A tool like that is at least 1K, plus annual software/lisencing costs. Skill levels have gone up, but you still cannot forget the basics.I've had to evolve a great deal in the 51 years I was a mechanic/tech.Quite glad that I'm retired now.

A 40 DCOE was a far better carb, but you had to get the venturie size, emulsion tubes, main, idle & air correction jetting spot on to enjoy them.If you were capable of such tuning, you had a good carb.I myself did alot of high perf VW back in the day.I got good at Dellorto & Weber tuning, as well as the conversions.Below is a link to my own turbo bug.It was INSANE...327 rwhp.

yup all that plus ,, todays cars have specific tools that only dealers have
obliging car owners to get service only at the dealer
