XtremeCodes is s connection type. 3 typical connections types are MAC, Xtreme Codes (XC) and M3U. Some servers offer only 1 type, others offer choices.

Like DU mentioned, XC is what most of us use, and XC is a little more flexible. With MAC based (which is also pretty common) you are often restricted to single connection only. With XC there is more flexibility and some servers offer multiple simultaneous connections, which is handy if you want to use PVR functions or on multiple TVs.
