Happened in Colorado. Courts ruled the police had no requirement to pay for the damages. The home had to be rebuilt.

now that would be excessive force i would think, go to a higher court, recently in my area the police shot up a house, the bad guy broke in and now the house can not be lived in for months, needs extensive repairs and the question did come up who pays, when i was young we never locked the doors, now days you need a camera, all kinds of locks and hope when you come back home that you have not had unwelcome visitors
