When we scraped anywhere , we got a wet paper towel on it till it dryed
on the scab ,and sent back out ,, then we'd gently removed it hours later
hoping it don't bleed again

You're right! I remember using mercurochrome instead of iodine because it didn't sting.

I believe it was banned due to mercury content.
