Report by Ben Lopez:
After a brief recap of the Sacrifice PPV, Eric Bischoff comes down to the ring with his seductive secretary to announce the Top 10 Contenders to the World Heavyweight Championship. He explains that it is based on 3 criteria: fan votes, career win-loss record, and TNA win-loss record.
The rankings are as follows:
10 Samoa Joe
9 Rob Terry
8 Desmond Wolfe
7 The Pope D'Angelo Dinero
6 Abyss
5 Mr. Anderson
4 Jeff Hardy
3 AJ Styles
2 Kurt Angle
But as Kurt Angle is announced, he doesn't come up the ramp. After some confusion, Bishoff decides to proceed:
And the #1 contender, Sting! Sting comes out (with some new red stripes on his face paint) and passes right by the other contenders, walking directly to the ring. Taz and Tenay mention that Jarrett suffered an injury at Sacrifice at the hands of Sting.
Bischoff then announces the main event for tonight: he will be facing Jeff Hardy! Sting says he'll do the same thing he did to Jarrett. He then dramatically smashes all of the TNA signs in the ring! He says Bischoff wanted change, but he's going to have to change the way he walks, and takes out Bischoff's legs with a swing of the bat! Abyss runs down to help, but meets the same fate!
Hardy fares much better, managing to get the bat away from Sting. They stare down, and after a slap to the face of Sting, retaliates and gives him a low blow! He retrieves his bat just as RVD makes his way down to the ring. Sting goes to confront RVD, but with his gazed turned away from Hardy, he makes it back to his feet and delivers a Twist of Fate on Sting.
Eric still in pain backstage. Morgan walks in and says that must hurt, but now we knows how they feel when Samoa Joe attacks the locker room for no reason.
We kick off our in-ring action with a surprise return: Roxxi! Footage is shown from when her ankle injury occurred last December.
Roxxi vs. Madison Rayne
Roxxi is aggressive as hell, and clearly hasn't lost a step! Roxxi gets an arm drag and continues to work on the arm, but Rayne gets a shoulder toss and follows up with a BRUTAL kick to the torso on a downed Roxxi. Madison is in control for a few minutes, but Roxxi manages to catch Madison in a diving clothesline and nails the Voodoo Drop perfectly for the upset win!
Winner: Roxxi
Desmond Wolfe is in his dressing room consoling Chelsea, who is uncomfortable being Abyss' valet for the next 30 days as a result of his loss at Sacrifice.
A cameraman backstage catches up with Kurt Angle asking him why he refused to come to the stage when he was announced as the #2 contender. He doesn't give an answer.
Kurt Angle's music hits and he walks out to the ring. The crowd is crazy supportive. Angle is a bit upset when he says he's been watching from home for the past month, and realizes there's been some pretty big changes since he's come to TNA. He says it seems Kurt Angle is no longer the elite. He says Kurt Angle would wrestle for free, that it wasn't about the ego, but steeping in the ring and looking his opponent in the eye.
Angle says he's going through a difficult time right now. Kurt has done everything there is to be done in wrestling, pro and amateur alike. So what can he do? Angle says he's going to take himself out of the top 10 and wrestle EVERY ONE of the 10 contenders before he gets a title shot! He looks directly into the camera with a dead serious expression and says we're going to see some of the greatest matches of all time to a HUGE ovation.
Ric Flair is livid in the back, ranting to Christy Hemme about how Jay Lethal not only embarrassed him on Impact, but on his interference at Sacrifice costing AJ the title. To my surprise, Kazarian comes in and says he wants to talk to Ric Flair. What could he possibly have to discuss...?
Rob Terry is talking about the doctor explaining he has a leg injury in 4 places. But he vows to still go out and face Orlando Jordan.
Rob Terry vs. Orlando Jordan
Orlando Jordan immediately attacks the knee, but Terry is hobbling around defending himself with clubbing blows. Terry pushes him into the corner, and after breaking gets a back body drop and quick clothesline. It looks like Terry was trying to get to the ropes for balance, but for heaven's sake, he just takes too damn long getting there, and suffers another low clothesline to put Orlando back in control. Jordan is relentless snapping back as he clutches the knee, eventually locking in a leg bar. Terry is in extreme pain but refuses to tap, but Hebner calls the match.
Winner: Orlando Jordan
More refs come out to try to get Jordan out of the ring, but he is merciless and keeps locking in the leg bar. The referees finally manage to pull him off.
Jay Lethal is being interviewed and he tries to explain that he meant no disrespect to Ric Flair last week. The next thing we know, RVD is popping his head in the door mentioning he heard Lethal was looking for a partner against Beer Money Inc.
Jeff Hardy is readying his face paint and talking about how Sting was an inspiration to him growing up, and also the one that gave him the idea of face paint.
Jesse Neal and Shannon Moore come into Team 3D's locker room and asks what last Sunday's tension (he hit in straight in the head with a kendo stick, costing them the match) was all about. Brother Ray says he was just giving him an attitude adjustment, but Neal suggests it may be jealousy. It looks like things have finally settled down, but as he's about to leave, Neal says from now on they'd better keep their distance, and Brother Ray just snaps and they start fighting until they're finally separated
