2 nights ago someone cut the line going from tanks to my buddy's food truck
they probably got $2 at most for the fitting and it cost my buddy $40 to replace it

Most phone cable is copper coated steel, not much worth at the scrap yard.

Now as too the wire mess, here in the US when you move the phone number is changed at what ever central office is within the dialing prefix, if you move outside the dialing prefix you get a new number.

Over in some country's the wire follows the move, so if you move 3 times the phone wire follows along, if you move 3 miles down the road the wire follows you down the road, if you move to the other side of town the wire follows along, if you move out of that county/district or state the wire is dead ended on the last pole were you lived, it can get to be a real big mess as you can see.
