It's a particularly shaped and painted room seen from a particular angle. She's closer and he's far away, but the angle of the floor (she's higher up and the ceiling is lower), the walls, and the size of the shapes on the wall all contribute to the look of them being the same distance away. But if you moved a couple feet right or left it would break down.
