I'm switching up from IKS to IPTV. I was hoping to get an opinion to a receiver. I have an old Buzz that doesn't seem to connect up to the TV I have. Might have had a few to many shuffles in the drawer for the last 10 years. Have no ideal what's wrong with it. But a suggestion would certainly be appreciated. I see Buzz are available on Amazon which could play a factor. Actually any help would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks a ton

Your old box (what model) is not powering up ? No lights ? It's dead ? If there are lights at least, have you tried a different input ? Different HDMI cable ?

Anyhow, like mentioned by DU, there is a sale going on right now.

I don't know your needs, but what I typically recommend to my family, friends and colleagues is "The Classic". Nice remote, nice box, same CPU as the more expensive X5 and U5, and runs BuzzTV 5 nice and fast :)

It's an XPL3000. It seems when I bought it they were pretty new release at the time. I might be off a bit off on the years in the drawer, but it looked like the last update was 2014. But I'm still going to look at that Buzz Classic to and do a bit of comparing. I still have the box for this Buzz 3000 and by looking at the numbers it has some good numbers to get me pointed in the right direction.

2016 was release year
the 1000,2000,3000 and 3900 have same firmware so that means if it shows 2014 it's never taken an update

it should be at v2.0/352

If it is an xpl3000, and assuming it powers up, what version of buzztv is presently installed ?

If I recall, the last version release was 2.0 (352) - pretty sure I still have the APK somewhere since I used it to updated from 1.6. Going from memory, I can dust it off and check on the weekend.
It may be slow, but it still works with "most" of the services I've tried (except for OK4 - but OK3 works fine).

For sure you can't compare it to the classic, but it does work.

I knew it was somewhere here :) Surprised the link in the post still works. Guess it is on nbs's or buzz's mega account so it has not been deleted. Nice.

Again... Thanks to both Dushuser and Emporium for your help up to now. Greatly appreciated. So this morning, I decided to start fresh, I ordered the BuzzClassic. Thankfully it was in my Amazon wish list with discount checkmarked so still received it at BlackFriday price, plus have free freight (Prime). I also found my contact info for my sub choice. So in the meantime I'll start searching how to set up the Buzz-Classic till it arrives.

setup is easy and once you do it make a backup so setup is even easier if a reset is ever performed

I would do some reading on research and reading on all the boxes before buying one. Also you should look into firesticks they are working very well now and read and research them also. I have tried them all alot of boxes and still have a couple but I have switched over to firesticks they are not to pricey and work very well

I used to have Buzz boxes in the past. Two out of the three I had broke(Buzz 3000).They seem to be made cheap.I have since changed to Formuler and these boxes are well built.Almost all of the Resellers around here sell Formuler Boxes. As for the Firesticks,I have buddies that switched to them and are very satisfied and even say they are faster.I have not switched to them because you are somewhat limited with the remote and what it will enable you to do.

And for every one of your stories I can find you dozens of the exact opposite. A bad unit can happen with any brand. Hell, you can buy a $100k car, and it can be in the shop on a weekly basis.

Myself and many of my family and friends have Buzz boxes. So far, I have not had a single box that has failed. Even multiple xpl3000 units which you mention. Had bought a whole batch of them when they first came out. If anything the xpl3000 is built like a tank. The formuler boxes of the same gen, I wish I could say they have stood the test of time. Many users that I have converted to buzz users, used to be formuler users (which were sold to them by their resellers at the time) and they changed because I recommended them after their formuler boxes bit the dust.

Recently buzz even help me revive an old boomerang mate which was sitting in the box (bought as a spare) and never got updates. The managed to scrounge around and locate the last update they sent out (which added piles of new features), and they sent me it, I put it on a USB stick, installed it, and the box works like a charm. Wish I could say formuler provides similar support, but if you ask them, they would put their head in the sand and pretend they don't hear you. Support is a key factor, and formuler is no where near the same level.

Resellers sell whatever is cheapest option for them to get you hooked on a service.

And you can't compare the firestick to either of the buzz or formuler boxes. Firesticks are just naked devices, which you need to be a little bit tech savvy to be able to side load whatever software you plan to use. Both buzz and formuler boxes can easily even be setting my my grandmother with very few instructions over the phone. Sure firesticks are cheap, and you can use them, but the experience will not be the same with 3rd party apps. And typically users who buy firesticks are cheap, and therefore not willing to "pay" for the software to get a better experience, since they would probably stick with the STBEmu for MAC subs, or IPTV smarters for XC. STBEmu works, but interface dates from the 80s (since that is the boxes they are emulating). And smarters, well, for TV, the UI in my opinions just sucks. For use on a tablet with touch, it is not bad, but for a TV, thanks but no thanks.

If you cant cough op $80-100 for a Buzz box you shouldn't be in the game, firesticks LOL. I guess buddies don't believe in a "customer experience".

Haven't tried buzz, but the Formuler Z10 SE has been super nice and solid for me.

Wow, For starters I just feel obligated to say thanks to Emporium this morning on his recommendation of the Buzztv Classic. Yesterday morning I got this new receiver up and running, and WOW. It more than exceeded my expectations. I had it on all day and it never ever even made a flicker or a hiccup, just perfectly perfectly smooth. Granted I have lots to learn with the whole new system, but the receiver was a great start in the right direction. Thanks to a few others for your advice along the way like Dishuser, Apollo, Noob etc for your PMs and help that assisted in my choices. Also big thanks to Wicked, really helpful through the support department and setup suggestion. Tons of Thanks to all.
