So, the other thread kept mentioning the from now on the way to watch OK3 or OK4 was gonna be through a VPN. I first tried proton VPN free and for a day or two it worked. Then , I kept getting a "sorry you have been blocked" screen by cloudflare. I figured , proton being free it ended up getting flagged. I finally decided to pay for IP vanish. My closest server, montreal , gave me the same result. I tried a few close to me in the USA , blocked as well. I tried one in Argentina .. it worked. Later I went to a friend's house and set him up his new fire tv stick + vpn (because his samsung tv couldn't use a vpn).. Well , even then Argentina showed as blocked.. I tried a whole bunch of different servers across the world , all blocked. This morning , I turned on my shield , opened stb emu and everything went through fine. Did some tests because a friend of mine wanted to watch Despicable me with his kids and all files reported missing, so I decided to move my account from OK4 to OK3 and check if the said movies are also missing files on ok3 (they are) and it launched to a "sorry you have been blocked" screen , so I went and checked , and without realizing , I was still connected to a vpn this morning, which worked for a few moments, but no longer did. So again I tried changing servers a few places around the world , always the same result, blocked.

So, what is the stance on OK3 / OK4 and VPN exactly ? I had some of my friends jump on the black friday deals and grab fire tv sticks just so they could use a vpn , but now it's still not working.. There's no way every single IP from IP vanish has been blocked by cloudflare..

@Herk , since you are our link with the devs , can you state what the current status is and what we are expected to follow in order to use the service properly? All my friends use the new server addresses , device IDs and now VPNs but we still hit a wall..

1./ proton has not been flagged and the free version is still working on a number of buzz boxes
2./Ipvanish is working on a number of buzz boxes.

As for the firesticks, I’m aware of 2 people using them with no issues with the free proton app. Don’t like them myself.

Reset the mac in the portal, follow the instructions that Herk sent about send device Id inside the stb emulator, pick a city in America for Ipvanish (not all countries work for ok3) and pick a server number in America for proton (not all server numbers work)..

The 2 on the firestick is still on the old server url.

Goodluck

First time I tried proton free it worked and then soon after I got the blocked message.. Finally decided to pay for ipvanish thinking with all the available servers I'll find one that worked , but the very first , in montreal , didn't work either.. Finally managed to find one that worked but later during the same day it got the blocked message again.. Me and my friends all use Device ID 1 and 2 + signature and I have reset the devices a few times (always keeping the same MAC addresses though). We are , all using the newer url though, so I guess maybe I can try the old one and see what happens. Thanks for the input! I'll take anything that comes!

Try this,

Any vpn server that starts with an ip 37.xx.xx.xx has no issues connecting to ok3 with the free version of proton.
Try the others and all fail.

I will speak for myself,I always need a VPN mostly at night. For some reason or other, connecting on free Proton has become close to impossible unless I refresh everything, redo the 8 Letter code they give on another device.Once I have entered the code,I can then connect for 24 hours.I am not sure why it has become so complicated all of a sudden.

Probably because in the last month (due to the blocking in Canada) their free VPN service has been solicited like crazy due to people looking for free options. I don't think they ever intended their free service to to be used for streaming.

Windscribe free tier limits you to 10GB/month which is plenty for the average user who does not use if for streaming or torrenting, but allows you to use it for that, but you will run out of bandwidth in relatively short period.

Not sure how proton will be able to continue to offer the service for free if the bandwidth needs go up. They will need to get creative or change the free model offering.

I believe this is more a Bandwidth Problem than a VPN problem etc. If people using/running IPTV services Don't
Have a Unlimited Bandwidth Account, then most likely they are going over their allotted Bandwidth, and you are
getting that message of being Blocked or something similar etc. Far as I remember IPTV uses a lot of Bandwidth ?

Just purchased proton vpn first connection with ok2, ok3 worked, then getting sorry you have been
blocked message with ok3, and can not load portal with with ok2. Connections work both without VPN.
Do not waste your money with PROTON VPN paid service. :grr:

I think this has something to do with OK servers, not the VPN service itself specifically.
OK servers (or something in the routing path) are blocking connections from many VPN sources.
I have a buddy who has 3 different services, and one needs VPN pretty much every night, so he decided to just set his VPN to auto connect at boot. Unfortunately, when he does that, OK4 does not work for him. I tried moving him to OK3 and made no difference. He tried at least half a dozen different locations using Windscribe Pro, and another half a dozen with another paid service (don't recall which one) and all gave him the same message.

His wife prefer OK4 for the international channels, and he prefers a completely different service (which needs VPN), so for now he has disabled the auto-connect, and he just connects manually when he watches on the other service.

Hi herk.
At least in my user cases, without VPN they are fine for now (not blocked).

But if they use VPN, they get a "message" that they are blocked. So since you say you don't allow a vpn at this time, I assume the blocked message is because the VPN address they are connecting from, is possibly in a "known" pool of VPN addresses.

In DU's case, I guess the IP pool of the server he is using, is not in the "list" of known vpn sources (at least on OK4).

I guess for now, the users that have multiple servers and some need and some do not "need" VPN, will need to turn their VPN on and off depending on which server they connect to.

Thanks

Using PROTON VPN looks like ten percent of the plus servers work with OK2/3, more than 50 percent of the
PROTON VPN FREE servers (not paid ones) work for OK2/3. Must be something in the VPN settings that causes
this, go figure the free one works better. At least I can cancel the paid one and get a refund since be using it for
less than the 30 day money back guarantee

You can't compare paid with free. Free only has 5 countries and you don't choose which one it connects to, so if you get a server that does not work, you need to manually change server, and retest to make sure it works. Paid has 180 countries, and you can choose to consistently connect to the same one. So once you find one that works, you can set it to consistently connect to the same server every time your box boots up. Free is single connection and paid also allows more than one connection. And the paid version allows split tunneling which is ideal if you have other services like netflix or disney+. You can configure the app to selectively allow traffic to go through the VPN tunnel (like your IPTV app) and allow others (like netflix, etc..) to go through without VPN. That way you don't need to constantly manually enable/disable it.

Proton is more expensive than others. Services like windscribe and ipvanish end up costing less than $0.10/day (which is about half of what proton costs). At that price, I can't be bothered with the hassle of connect/disconnect until it connects to a working server. Set and forget is the way I prefer it.

I would like to chime in and end this thread.
I use a VPN and and I have a customer who's too cheap to purchase it.

First of all we use Ok3 only and both use the new 3303 url.

Secondly I use IPVanish for a few weeks since the Internet ISP outages and Ive been connecting to Cincinnati as an IP location and its been working flawless for myself and others.

She, who doesn't use a VPN, just recently got a message about "Sorry you've been blocked"

I reset the server connection through the panel and hers is fixed.

I'd also like to point out as other users have on this thread that when I connect to some other locations I was getting this message as well.

Solution is for those who don't use a VPN just have their server connection reset via the provider.
For those who do use VPN, try a different location until it works. Ciao

end this thread?
you don't have the option to do that :laughat:
