i have a couple of Sony cassette players that work just fine, the problem is getting decent rubber belts that last, surprising how much the old players are selling for on ebay,

Same.. I need one for the 8 Track in my 1972 Buick.
The Supertramp Crime of the Century 8 track lives in that unit :)

Maybe this summer I'll get around to pulling it out and replacing it.

If they're round belts rather than flat belts, you can make then from the correct thickness/diameter O ring.I have made at least a dozen in the past, including 6 or so for Alpine head units.
If you find an O ring that is the correct thickness but a little long, they can be trimmed to the correct length and glued with crazy glue or equivalent.

there is someone in Calif that sells belts, i also have a Sony boom box but the belts did not last very long, i recently got mine from a electronic store in Canada but the mailing was by pony express, if you have the parts manual you can find the part number and do a search, if you do not have a parts manual you can down load that manual, print it out and then do a search, use to be able to get them from Sears,

There's an online shop called "FixYourAudio", just Google it - they sell spare belts for a reasonable cost... They have kits for specific models but you can also order by size. I have no association with them, just ordered a bunch from them in the past and been happy.
