View Full Version : The 10 Fastest cars over the quarter mile of the 60's
The 1960s were a g (https://www.hotcars.com/american-classic-car-icons/)olden era of American muscle cars , defined by raw power, aggressive styling, and tire-shredding straight-line speed. The decade saw the birth of many iconic models that would become legends, each one pushing the boundaries of performance in the quest to rule the proverbial roost. As engine displacements grew increasingly larger and horsepower figures soared, these cars became increasingly specialized for dominance on the street and the strip.

I guess the Yenkos can't be considered production units, even though they were ordered from GM dealerships using the COPO program:
12.59-second
The Yenko Camaro 427 SYC was perhaps the fastest muscle car of 1969, which is an impressive feat, to say the least. According to Super Stock & Drag Illustrated magazine, the vehicle traveled at 108.2 miles per hour to clock a 12.59-second pass in the quarter-mile.

Taking the top spot on our list is Plymouth's 1969 Road Runner. As the recipient of MotorTrend's Car of the Year in 1969, the model was well-regarded for its wallet-friendly performance at the time, and novelties like its Road Runner graphics, beep-beep horn , and Coyote Duster air cleaner mean that it commands strong appeal today.
Although the Road Runner was a quick car even with the base 383 — thanks to its use of 440 Super Commando heads, intake, cam, and exhaust manifold — it was the 426-cubic-inch Hemi (a spendy $714 option) that truly unlocked its performance potential. Running F70-15 tires, Muscle Car Confidential took a 1969 Road Runner specced with a TorqueFlite three-speed automatic and 4.10 gears to a neck-snapping 13.32-second quarter at 107.65 mph.
Those are some fast cars ,,, you appreciate them best sitting at the finish line
