Has anyone found a way to disable it ? I have switched over to yahoo search for now.

I am pretty sure that once you set another search engine as your default engine, google won't do anything anmore, only the one that you choose will work...

Guess you haven't seen it yet Gus - just a matter of time , it hit one of my pcs yesterday .

Google has enhanced their main page - they are pushing their stuff big time. Until now you could get rid of it by deleting cookies , not anymore ...

In fire fox I use a extension add on ... Hide Google Options 1.0b8..To hide side bar option in Google search results ,works great

google.ca at one point didn't have the sidebar.......but alas.....they caught up.....:)
