View Full Version : Retro TV Gone?

Just set up my new BUD (6' mesh ku/C feed) and have been enjoying a lot of the channels I've found. And, thanks to the help of this forum, I've also solved a lot of the "newbie" problems!

However, I can't seem to find Retro TV! In fact, the only thing I'm seeing on AMC-9 is a signal on the HughesNet TP (12140V). Other than that there's no activity I can find. I suppose it's possible that I'm not actually on AMC-9, but it's appears to be the right bird. I've found all the other birds in the arc from 87W to 108W and have excellent signals on all of them - both ku and C band.

So is Retro TV no longer there, or am I just not aimed at the right bird? If I'm off the mark, what other bird has only a TP on 12140V? I am getting a 48% S-Q on 12140V. Also, it is 80 "clicks" east of AMC-3, which should be about 4 degrees from what I've noticed when searching other birds.

Somethings not right as I have RTV at TP 11735H just fine, check to see if your settings are right, the S/R is 4444 and the FEC is 3/4.

RTV is still there.

When I went looking for RTV on AMC9 I first tuned in to t.p. 11775. It’s a strong test pattern and news feed. Once I had AMC9 tuned in the best I could I switched the t.p. to
11735 moved my dish a 1/16 at a time until I found it.
It’s like it’s not exactly on that coordinates. Like it’s of just a hair. Using a 36’’ fortec dish and a viewsat receiver.
Works for me. Note as of Jan 2010 They have turned up the power way up on this one so it’s not as hard to fined now.

Tp 11775 4232 H 5/6 test pattern

Tp 11735 4444 H ¾ RTV

OK, I have my settings off a bit (11735, 4440, 7/8). Got those from another guide that I had. I'll change it when I get home tonight and see if I can find it. I'll also put in the test pattern TP as well.

Thanks for the help!

Yeah buddy! I now have Retro TV! Once I changed the S/R and the FEC I got a signal. And, indeed, it was about 4 clicks off "center"! Once I got it tuned in I'm getting 55% on it!

Life is good!

For your info, there are about 40 RTN channels on 87W c-band. That's right next door to 89W. But they are DVB-S2 signals. You won't get them on a regular fta receiver.

I'm using a Pansat 9200 with a DVB-S2 card to get them.

The cheapest you'll be able to get them is with a computer card -- probably a Twinhan or something like that.

The DVB-S2 card will also get you a bunch of ABC, NBC and FOX channels broadcasting in 720p and 1080i.

I'm hoping my Pansat runs long enough to get freedbs once they shift to MPEG-4. I've got a little, cheap, green fan on top of it running 24/7 to keep it cool. They are very expensive receivers.

There's something else I forgot.

If you live somewhere you can get locals over the air, many local stations are offering additional programming than just the one channel they broadcast on.

I used to get only one channel 6. Channel 6 has 6.1 and 6.2. And 6.2 is RTN.
Channel 11 has 11.1, 11.2 and 11.3. And 11.2 is THIS.

This is an even easier way to get RTN plus your locals.

So if you haven't checked out OTA lately, you need to do that, too. Many stations have been adjusting and increasing their signal since June of 2009.
I'm getting about 30 local channels, and I live in a fringe area.

Of course, it necessitated the installation of a TV pre-amp and a good eight-bay UHF antenna.

After reading this I moved the dish to 87W to confirm because I had been getting those RTN channels but they are no longer there. What tp are they on? Using a cs8000 and for some reason the RTN channels have all disappeared

Does your cs8k do dvbs2 EC? I have never tried tose channels before, think I'll try with my azbox premium.

No these RTN and TURF chan still there i'm watching them as i post this reply.
but some times it gets weak at certain times on my end, but this is cause i tuned my dish to my favourite chan.on 97w to get the strongest Q, so i don't care about RTN cause i got it over the air outdoor antenna.

The 2 I tried earlier today didn't scan in here either. I tried:

3800 H 29125 DVBS 8PSK Pilot(1)
4080 H 29125 DVBS 8PSK Pilot(1)
