Ftatalk, gone but not forgotten

Just to let everyone know that ftatalk was taken offline by the owner. This was done to protect the members and staff of the site since he was subpoena as were the other sites that have gone down in the recent weeks

Ftatalk was special to many of who got their start there and was much more than anyone could ever have imagined it would be. we all met many friends there and i am sure many have fond memories

thanks for making it what it was. all are welcome here and if there are sections here that have to be created to fill the void, it will be done

To me the greatest thing about Talk was the opportunity to cross paths with so many of you I now call "My Friends" I will forever be grateful for the many opportunities and good times that Talk offered me. It will be sadly missed for sure.

I came there shortly after CCC went off line and I saw many member that were here were also members before.

Today another part of the Fta family got hit once again as another Fta site closed. Ftatalk was shut down early this morning, coming after Ftabins, another site that was shut down two weeks earlier. Both would be miss but not forgotten and always will be welcome back at any time. Our Friends that we called family will be miss and treasurer too. Many of us started or often visit these two sites. Godbless and thank you Ftatalk & Ftabins for what you have done and contributed to the Fta world.

I feel a great sense of loss at the demise of ftatalk. I started there and learned everything from the helpful kind people that hung out @talk. I'm stunned! Like so many others I guess I figured that since Talk went legit that it would be spared the same fate as others, but I guess the damage was already done. Too bad because the site had really diversified to accommodate so many different interests. I'll miss the fine folks I met there and hope they find new homes as welcoming as Talk. Cheers.

Very sad indeed and quite a shocker. Well I have a lot of fond memories from Talk and a lot of great friends that I would invite into my house from there as friends.
The good news is there are many here I consider friends also so it's not all bad but still very sad indeed.

No matter the site was built-up by some great people, and has built some great freindships over the years and you could not have found a better group of people anywhere on the net.

I haven't been involved in any kind of FTA activity in a long time but I stayed with Talk for many of the other sections - sports, humour, rumours, mindless games, etc. It seemed a lot like family and I'll really miss Talk with my morning coffee. I especially liked the culture of mutual respect between members with none of the flaming, cussing etc. seen in many other forums. As they say, all good things come to an end and this proves that its true. :cry:

Sheesh back in the day FTATalk used to be the talk of the town. I found it and never and would want to leave it do to staff and frienships I had acquired...never mind the vast amount of knowledge as well as the good reading. Learnt heaps there and was even able to help some back in the day.
It was and always will be my favorite that I joined (next to here).

Fatal, you did a fabulous job and once again you thought of others as you always did closing up shop . May the Gods above look after you through this trying time. :thumbsup:

Even though I knew last night that the site was closed I still went to it the first thing this morning to see if it was all a big mistake and all was back to normal. i was a member at ftatalk for 2 years. although it wasn't my "home" site, i really enjoyed going there and tried to help members when i could. the site was great and had members with soooo much good info! i have to say i admire everyones passion and loyalties to ftatalk. your posts in this thread are really heart felt. i know how you feel because the site i am a jr admin at, totaliks.com is closing its doors tonight. it is a small site but it was my baby so to speak. i loved building that site and got member numbers pretty high until the site crashed and we had to rebuild again. it was never the same after that. i appologize for mentioning another site in this thread but my point is i am sad like you all and i know how it feels. it sucks that sites are dropping around us. lets hope this great site (satfix) grows stronger and stronger!!! good luck fatal and well done on a great site and that goes to the great staff at ftatalk too:) god bless!!!

I've made lots of friends and a couple enemies in my 3 year stint there. Had some rough times but I will never forget the good times at talk. When i first joined I was banned by some guy named slammer for using my email address as my username. If I could only see that guy now. Anyway Good luck to fatal for all he's done for us and how he continues to selflessly protect the members.

i don't think they were on a north american server when they had files on there. they may have switched servers when they removed all sat files. i don't think there are any sites on n. american servers that have files on them. too easy to get nailed.

If you check with hp//xxx. sitelogr.com they can tell you where the server
is located, they update the service every week.

Oh my gawd......................to my horror, after wondering for a couple of days as to WHY I couldn't log in to Talk, I find this thread at her sister.

FTATalk was my first site and I learned more about this hobby there than at any other site online. I've made lasting friendships and hopefully been able to help members out of a jam a couple of times at least. Let's all keep our fingers crossed and the owner(s) see fit to resurrect the greatest FTA site of all.

fta...What's next....It looks to me that DN and Bev are not going to stop
till every fta site is gone from the web...Things don't look to good to me
right now.....What's stopping this site from going down and a few others?

I was a member of talk for quite some time, and made many, many friends on the site, helping others is what I enjoyed, and being there for everyone, whether it was their receiver down, or just to give advice, and be there in an hour of need, that's who I was, and members asking me for assistance, made me feel i was helping.....my leaving talk was not on the best of terms, i do not hold any animosity to anyone at talk, they were a great group of people, I wish Fatal every good luck i can send his way, I realize there is another site...good luck Fatal. I am sure it will be as successful as Talk.........

Throughout the last several years, that was my routine: check up on *talk* to see if there is something new and interesting. It was the same every morning and every night. If I did my exercises the way I checked on *talk*, I'd be competing for the Mr. Universe contest!

I knew something was wrong when "can't connect to server" appeared on my screen. Until I discovered a few friends here I was unaware of developments. I certainly miss the many great pals at *talk* but am glad a few of them are here!

I'm not a man of many words but I think tonight will be an exception. I came to talk quite by accident some time ago looking for a "fix" but finding so much more.At the time I was quite sick and there was fears that I would not make it. I had some rough times where evenmy faith was tested to the max.The one constant I had through this time was talk, and especially the chatroom. Now I am going to name some people here and if I forget anyone,please forgive me as my eyes are leaking as I type.These people became even more than family to me as I went through my relapses and recoveries. I'm not a man of many words but I think tonight will be an exception. I came to talk quite by accident some time ago looking for a "fix" but finding so much more.At the time I was quite sick and there was fears that I would not make it. I had some rough times where evenmy faith was tested to the max.The one constant I had through this time was talk, and especially the chatroom. Now I am going to name some people here and if I forget anyone,please forgive me as my eyes are leaking as I type.These people became even more than family to me as I went through my relapses and recoveries. I have my life to thank to you and I will never forget your prayers, thoughtfulness,and humor in making me who I am today. Wow, I just tried to visit my go-to site for all things fta and blammo... gone.
I just wanted to say a big THANKS to all the people who gave there time to write out the necessary info and tips for getting through the dark times, I found Talk to be a very informative and interesting site to visit, even with the new format there where many pearls of wisdom being passed down.

I have learnt about FTA was first from ftatalk. When it was no more provide files and I was refered to join satfix. Most of the old friends from ftatalk are together in here. At first I thought both were sister sites. I used to open both sites each day to learn and get information.

Now ftatalk was forced to close down. I just want to say thanks to the owner who gave us the opportunity to learn and to meet friends. Fortunately we still have satfix to hold us together. I do hope that we would hold together and stand still for guarding with our last land.

I was wondering what happened.....no wonder I couldn't log in for over a week! I don't have time to read all the sections so this came as a real surprise to me.

I want to thank everyone at FTA for giving me the opportunity to learn (and I learned A LOT). It's comforting to know that many of the friends I made there are here. I wish Fatal good luck, he has had a lot at stake keeping this hobby alive.

I hope nothing happens here........I don't know where else I would go! Unfortunately, the corporate greed on charlie's end most likely won't stop until he succeeds in ruining it for all of us. :rolleyes:

True words blues... A lot of people got started with Talk. The guy that helped me set up my dish and motor signed me in to Talk for FAQ. We got our pointing settings from Terryl and a couple of others. Fatal is a great guy... he defended me a few times when things got... heated? LOL

Fatal will be fine, I'm sure. he is complying and keeping his nose clean. I know he had a couple of other projects on the go too...

Just found out about this. Out of the loop for a while, but seems very timely due to the surcamstances.

FTATalk was something else. Never mind all the other sites shutting down, Talk stood out from the rest. The way it was moderated set the example for many others to follow.
