Hi,
I had wonderful FTA on 97W Galaxy until 2 days ago. I don't know what happened but I am unable to pick up the satellite. Our dish cannot be moved easily and the LNB looks untouched so we're at a loss.
Can anyone say what could be the problem and possible solution? Thanks.

Could be a number of reasons, faulty switch or lnb, loose connection or maybe even your install settings in your stb. Report back what lnb, stb you are using and the info for your settings.

Thanks for the quick response.
I have a universal LNB which is less than a year old so I hope it's not the problem. What should I look for that would indicate a faulty switch or LNB.
I'm sorry, but I'm not sure what an 'stb' is? Could you explain? Thanks.
I am not at home now, but I will get the install settings when I get there.

STB stands for Set Top Box or in other words the name of your machine.

If your using a switch just change the port you have your coax running into and change it in your install settings to see if that's the problem. Stb is your receiver, set top box.

STB means set top box or satellite,Power off the stb and remove the switch then go to menu and check for signal .If no signal go to lnb end of cable make sure power is off at stb on the back power switch then tkae cable loose check for 13v or 18 volt dc this will tell if cable has loose connection, if you have volts you either have bad lnb or dish has moved slightly rom stong wind.you can ckeck lnb with cheap signal meter from ebay or radio shack .anyone with sat needs signal meter sooner or later.

Could have fried your lnb or switch.

Yes it could have pooched your LNB, an indication of a bad LNB would be a drop in the "S" signal from it, and if your positive that the dish hasn’t moved and your coax is good (no water in the connections or inside it, or any corroded connections) then the "S" reading would be lower then normal.
If the “S” reading was at 80% (example) and your now at 30% you have the possibility of that the LNB has gone south for the winter but only if you have ruled out the possibility of water in the connectors to the LNB or switch or water in the coax.

And with lightning it can be a near miss, the EMP* from a near miss can wipe out the LNB or switch. <br />

*EMP, Electro Magnetic Pulse, created during a high energy discharge of a nuclear or electrical...

Thanks for all your help guys, I've bought a new LNB and hopefully everything will be great again, once I get it going.
By the way, I have a Coolsat 6100 Private.
