Depends on where u live..It requires a larger dish and a different LNB..
Sometimes as mentioned u can pick one up at a garage sale or flea market for 10$..
IF you already have an FTA receiver and a factory file plus repoint to the proper sat..Away u go..
So to answer your question..you would have to tell us what equipment u have now..

Any fta receiver will get true fta signal- so you're good there. The dish you have isn't what you're needing though. For true fta signals- they're not compressed beams, so they need a larger dish and a different lnb to pick the signal up. This can be cheap though if you want to try the dish mentioned above or a superd1sh. What you get with the smaller dishes is limited, but you can usually get them cheap or free.
Or you can get a BUD (Big Ugly Dish) and put a linear lnb onto it. This will get more sats because size matters. BUDs can range in size from @ 4 foot and up. The lnbs can range from @ 10- 100 dollars.
Or you can but a meter dish made for true fta , motor, and lnb. This costs more than the other options- but as I said before- size does matter.

Space available, mariatal discussions, and money play a big role in starting true fta. Generally true fta dishes only point at one sat at a time, so a motor or multiple setups is needed for more than one sat. The available channels varies by what you watch- there are more foreign language selection than english. If I were starting cheap without much room, get a old choice or super dish and point for 95, 101, or similar.

History and BIO channels are on 101w linear and can usually pick up on the dishes mentioned. But a larger dish is always better.

I prefer using a standard linear L N B F and find them easier to setup. Just my personal opinion. Many people use a universal L N B F with out problems but they are not necessary in North America.

Make sure mast dish is on is perfectly plumb. Important.

I take a small TV and my receiver right out to the dish but what ever works for you.
You could have some one watch the screen as you adjust. no TV’s or receivers in the rain.

Point the dish to where you think satellite is. I use a compass I got at Canadian tire to point me in the right direction in the sky. Then adjust elevation (up/down) degs. The scales on the dish are never right but it gives you some were to start from for now.
Now move the dish left to right really slowly a 1/16 at a time stop then a 1/16 and stop give it a second, and so on or right to left what ever works for you watch you meter closely, go back and forth up and down SLOWLY working a grid pattern and you will find it. I have tuned in dozens of satellites using this method. Use small tiny adjustments or you will miss it. DON”T STAND IN FRONT OF THE DISH when adjusting it like I did once.

Once you get a signal go back and forth up/down till you get the best possible signal. Then you need to adjust the L N B skew this is done buy turning the L N B right or left.
I adjust my L N B buy turning it slowly on way till signal drops off then the other way till signal drops off and set it in the middle or the strongest signal.
Once you have done all this and nuts, bolts and screws are snugged up you would exit the antenna setup page say yes to save the settings. Next go to main menu then installation then Blind scan and do a blind scan for this satellite. It will scan all the tp’s on this satellite.
On my viewsat receiver in the antenna setup page I would set my L N B to standard because I use a standard linear L N B
L n b freq to10750
Lnb power on
22 khz0ff
Tp freq to a strong tp on sat your trying for
Diseqc off
Motor off
Legacy sw none
You will get something. This is a much weaker signal then bell or dishnet and living in Canada we are on the fringe as most of these satellites are amid at the states.

Sorry Paul, live liks are not allowed my friend. I agree with all you said with the exception of a universal lnb. Although the universal ku band lnb is the preferred lnb in Europe and Asia because all of the band is utilised. it can also be used here.
I'm using a dmx bsc621-2d lnbf on my 6' setup and the ku side is universal, no issues on my end.

I didn't see any mention above about starting your set-up using your true south satellite.

Depending upon where you are in the world, you will have to determine first which satellite is your true south satellite. This satellite is at the highest point (elevation) in your arc. You will use this as a reference to locate all the others.

Mine in lower SC is Nimiq 4 (82W). I'm getting 22 satellites at present. Most only have five to ten channels each. 97W has the most stations. There were over 200. I'm not sure how many now. Most aren't English speaking channels. If you get a c-band dish larger than six feet, you can get both c-band and ku. I'm running a ten foot Perfect 10 from 1993. Somebody gave it to me. I've really enjoyed "playing" with it.

Geosatfinder.com is a good reference, but there are plenty of others you might like better. It will give you the coordinates, elevation and skew of all the satellites depending upon where you live. All you need do is put in your zip code and your computer will do all the computations. It's like magic!!

I hope you enjoy your satellite experience. And happy satellite hunting!!!

If you are not setting up a motor you don’t need your true south sat to get started. I was just giving him the basics to get started didn’t get into motor setup. Sorry Costa will try and remember about links.
