:thumbsup:I went into 'Talk about 2 weeks ago to say 'I finally got a BUD',but the doors were locked and the lights were out...It's a 7 1/2' Unimesh with a Star Trak LNB and a turquoise Polar Axis(Polarity motor??) on top,no cover though. The guy's neibour said the former owner removed something from the front.?Anybody know what's missing? It also has a Super Jack II He(actuator?)I cut the (4 1/2" down to 3 1/2")pipe off at ground level so I'll have to get about 3-4' welded on before I can 'plant' it.
I have the following IRD's:Homesat,SV360P,SV 4000,Foretec Classic,CW700&800.Can any of these controll and receive on their own? Thanks

Do you have any pix?

The Homesat might move the dish...Some of these (Like mine) has another box which is a dish mover & hooks to the Homesat. If that is the case & you don't have the other box, then no...It can't move the dish.

Many of the positioners on todays market are very user friendly & cheap

easily confused

I can tell you that the CW700and 800 won't work by themselves. I have 2 CW 700's and had to use a V-Box as a positioner. Also have a CS8000 and need the V-Box

Your homesat ird will move your dish but it's a bit complicated to program your sats so be patient and I hope you have the manual for it. Your fortec is known to be one of the best stb for true fta. All in all, I'd say your good to go but you might want to pick up a c/ku lnbf.

Thanks everyone.C-band is completely new to me.I'll have to do a lot of reading and searching.

With the exception og G19 at 97w, there are many more c band channels then ku band fta. However, most but not all feeds are ku.

If you mean adding sats and transponders, that's a piece of cake with the Homesat.I love that box for it's instant signal response when searching out sats(plus its exellent picture and instant channel changing). This was my first receiver so I know it the best and use it for finding sats.I paid attention to your cband posts over the last few months especially re the Atlantic bird, but those posts are gone with the 'ol site. Thanks

Thanks trommy, good to know that my posts have been helping out. I have to agree with you about the ird, my toshiba is a relic but spot on for accuracy. If you need more info on Atlantic sats you can have a look at my Arc thread:

I really missed out this week in Edmonton. I was looking on the local online freebie section last night and a guy was giving..yes giving away a 10' foot solid aluminum and all the works. I couldn't get my truck setup to haul it and he had to have it gone today, so I told him I would have to pass on the dish but would be in to grab the other goodies. When I got there he was taking a sabre saw to it...once again a couple days late, and a solid dish to make me it worse! Heres a pic
As far as goodies I got some doorstops: a Houston Tracker vc2 descrambler A01...on the back (totally useless?), Luxor receiver and a Luxor remote control actuator, the actuator and also a Chapparal feedhorn and magnum down converter I will read the forums here but off hand was it worth the 15 dollars gas? I might try the conical scalar on an large offset for C-Band , Ive graduated ku and need to try C now.

What a shame, awesome looking dish. You seem to have all the components for a big dish setup, take a drive around the coutryside. You never know what buds you might find.

Yes that would have been a awesome c/ku set up but a nightmare to drive through the city with. Looking for a mesh that can dismantle it will have to be. Besides the wife didn't know anything about this and the fact that it would shadow all of her flowerbeds hahahahah.

Another great dish cut up to pieces, bought makes me want to cry.

That would have been a sweet setup for you.

10' dishes will usually fit perfectly 'dish face up' in the back of a full sized pickup bed with just a foot or so hanging over the sides and tailgate after you remove the dish motor, etc., thats how I got mine home years ago.

I just had to call a lady back in Dartmouth because I couldn't find anyone available to help me take the dish down.It looks like it's about a 10'-er and quite high off the ground. It's raining here so power tools aren't too safe to use.Plus no helper! And 1 1/2 hr drive. However,I picked up an SRT 7000 vc II on the way home from church that one of the congregation had with a bunch of accessories.I thought the box might be good for something but I guess I was wrong.I will try to post pictures so someone can tell me what I have. Thanks

Appearantly several people took one look at the dish and left it alone. The lady emailed me back to tell me I could still have it.It's a 10' dish, looks like the Unimesh. It's near a fence, the dish is 7 1/2' off the ground which would put the center about11 1/2' up(the dish is tilted up about 30d .)No tree limbs heavy enough to lower it from.I'm thinking of making a 12' tripod or bipod from 2x6 and the 2 of us could lower it with a rope if need be.Any tips would be helpful.

Maybe bolt or weld a boat winch with steel cable on the pipe just below the dish.

You will need to be really carefull and stay behind the dish and pipe because when you cut the pipe the dish is going to fall and swing around some when the cable catches it. LOL

Some of the good boat winches will ratchet both ways, some cheap ones only cranking in or up the pole in your case so I would get the first type so you can slowly hand crank it down to the ground.

The only other way may be to take it apart and bring it down in pieces, Uggggh. LOL

Hi, sorry I am late reporting back.
My son and I went to get the dish on Monday morning. It was at least a 10 footer, but heavily rusted., to say the least. I managed to get the bolts holding the dish to the pole but couldn't get the dish off the pole due to rust, weight and awkwardness. The pole is bolted to a concrete pad and again, very rusty and unable to loosen. We finally gave up on it. I think it would take a few people and a torch to cut this puppy down!

Thanks Caper and Bowhunters.I went there today and way pleasantly suprised to find the top bolts loosened.I keep a spray bottle full of clean old engine oil and kerosene(diesel) mixed (WD-60) for rusty bolts on atv's etc.I sprayed all the nuts as soon as I got there, not knowing that the upper ones were already loose. My son works with Black and Mac...who work with this kind of setup on light poles etc. so he said we could cut the two nuts (with a cutting disc)down one side of the nut. This allowed him to loosen the nuts enough to cut the stud from underneath the nut, then break it off with the big hammer. The 2 nuts on the other side he just loosened a bit. Then we rocked the pole carefully a few times to break the 2 remaining studs. These 2 studs held the base in place while we lowered it to the ground. Then we seperated the dish and mount from the pole with the hammer while twisting.
She is a real sweet school (single)teacher.(I wish I was younger.)My son may do some electrical work for her.
The braces were extremely rusty, one broken and another broke while we worked on it.Two finger size holes in the mesh and we riped one mesh loose in the process but repairable. The actuator seems in very good physical condition. It's calling for rain the next 2 days so I figured I better get it today.I'm glad I didn't know how rusty it was or I probably wouldn't have driven 1 1/2 hr to get it.My 7 1/2'-er is in exellent shape compared to this

For the rust, I would consider calling around and maybe you can find a local machine shop that has a sand blaster (or maybe you can rent one from a equipment rental).

Get the polar mount and metal parts nocked down to bare metal and then whipe it down to get rid of the dust and then give it a couple coats of paint, Krylon rustproof paint is good stuff and that will help it look at least decent for years into the future.

Thanks again Bowhunters.I have a sandblaster (at my son's).The dish itself isn't that bad, alot of surface rust around the rim but the lnb supports were rusted away on both ends. The bolts are very rusty and I have been applying 'WD 60' to them and the polar mount region.I have been siding my home in between rainy days the past week.Hopefully I'll have that finished in another week or so;with about 3 windows to install too. Then I hope to set up one of the dishes,if I can find the money. Thanks

Good luck with the dish.
