At the Agua Caliente Casino in Rancho Mirage, California, Alfredo Angulo (19-1, 16KOs) got his most impressive win to date when he destroyed former WBA champion Joachim Alcine (32-2, 19KOs) in the first round. The fight was a WBC junior middleweight eliminator.
Alcine started well working off the jab and landing hard shots. When they got in close, Angulo rocked him with some inside punches to the head. They started fighting toe to toe with Alcine giving as good as he was getting. Angulo began to turn up the heat and pinned Alcine against the ropes. He landed a left to the temple, a left to the chin and then then two rights hands. Alcine was out on his feet, dropping his hands and referee Dr. Lou Moret jumped in to stop the contest at 2:59 of the round.
