Top Rank CEO Bob Arum has informed Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports that WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao will move up to the junior middleweight division to challenge Antonio Margarito for the vacant WBC title on November 13. Margarito's team will once again attempt to get him a license to box in Las Vegas. If that moves fails, the fight will take place in Monterrey, Mexico.

WBA 154-pound champion Miguel Cotto was the other option for November, but his TKO loss to Pacquiao took place less than a year ago and few people were interested in the rematch.

“Cotto was beaten and even with [Hall of Fame trainer] Emanuel Steward now with him, I don’t think people believe that it’s enough to make a difference and I’m not sure they would buy it as competitive,” Arum said. “But putting aside the controversy about the wraps, the one thing you know for sure with a Margarito fight is that it will be a hell of a fight for however long it lasts.

“Margarito knows only one way to fight and that’s coming forward. They’re going to get in there and fight. That’s what people want to see.”

He needs to find someone else. Handwraps aside, Margarito got his a** handed to him by Sugar Shane, and we all know how Sugar Shane's next fight went. This is just another "who cares fight" like Pac/Clottey. Since Mayweather doesn't want to fight again this year, go down in weight to 140 and fight Amir Khan(won't happen because Roach trains both of them) or Timothy Bradley.

No, this seems like an obvious ploy by Bob Arum to keep all the money in house. He can offer Margarito less because of his licensing problems and both fighters are with Top Rank.

A solid waste of time, I predict it will be over by the 4th round.

ABS/CBN NEWS confirms as of 5 am PST today that TOP RANK Promoter Bob Arum announced the match between the Philippine Congressman and Antonio Margarito on November 13 2010. They will be contesting for the vacant 154-lb WBC Junior Middleweight division.

They prefer the fight to take place in Las Vegas Nevada. Thus, it is anticipated that Arum will help Margarito obtain a licence with the Nevada Boxing Commission. Failing this, Monterrey Mexico is confirmed to be the venue.

My personal thoughts are that the Margarito licensing would be facilitated taking into account the revenue this would create for the city and the state. The gambling moguls will definitely get behind the scene to make it happen in Las Vegas. Pacquiao is one of the hottest tickets in gambling casinos attracting high rollers all over the world.

With this development, the possibility of retirement from the ring by the Pilipino mega star Congressman looms big. Although the fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. would have been ideal for his swan song, this match is against a boxer feared in the division before the loaded glove controversy.

Setting aside his black mark, Margarito's record remains impressive. This is the guy that disposed of Kermit Cintron twice - in 2005 & 2006 by KO. He also took care of Sergio Martinez in 2000, knocking him out in the 7th round. These are two of the toughest in the division. With the other division champion Paul Williams, he lost by unanimous decision three years ago.

Both fighters (Margarito/Pacquiao) are exciting to watch with their non-stop work ethics. They are almost the same age with Pacquaio turning 32 on December 17. Both have incredible punching power.

My prediction? Pacquiao by KO, earning him his 8th division title - a fitting climax for an illustrious career!

I agree.............

He plays with boxers the same way Don King did in the past. Money is the common denominator. Giving Margarito a reward for cheating is giving Floyd's camp reason to belive that he also new about other illegal things.........and his link with Roach. My thougts. :innocent:

Heck, fight Mosley! He beat Margarito in his last noteworthy fight. I just don't see where you fight someone who lost and did it badly. This fight makes no sense at all, except as a way for Pac to pocket money.

I know Mayweather is not going to fight anyone this year. Since some think Pac is going to quit soon, why not just quit now. Make a statement that your next fight(if there is one) will be against Mayweather. Otherwise, you are retiring. Actually talk to the Mayweather camp and ask them when he wants to fight again(how much time he needs to get ready for Pac) and keep in shape for that time.

Scheduling lackluster fights like this is bullsh** and just wrong toward the fans. GRRRR.......

I think PAC will win but his crappy performance versus Clottey makes me think twice, he may have thrown 1200+ punches, but his lack of defense may expose his medicre offense. As much I think this fight is BS, I just wanna see some boxing.

The other thing I don't understand is how these two are fighting for a belt, the belt may be vacant, but it's disrespectful to the true JR Middleweights who been fighting in that class, this makes it seem like you don't have to work through the division, all you have to do is have a big name.

This fight can only happen in Vegas, if the committee accepts Margarito this time, that means Arum threw a big amount of money their direction. Because Margarito hasn't changed since the last time they asked for a reinstatement, let's wait and see if the commission buckles under pressure or will they stand their ground.

Ho hum Manny. Boring fights will only water down your legacy. Best to retire now and not fighter anyhow who could diminish your status. Jmo, if he fights two more fights, I'm still watching.
