TORONTO -- Mike Weir had every opportunity to make excuses after crashing out of the RBC Canadian Open, but the popular Canuck lefty pointed the finger directly at himself.
The Bright's Grove, Ont., native refused to pinpoint the tendinitis in his right arm as the reason for his poor play after firing a 74 at St. George's Golf and Country Club on Friday to finish at 6 over and miss the cut.
Big crowds followed Weir through both his rounds, but the 2003 Masters champion couldn't deliver.
"I had great support. I want to give a better show and the fans are great. I wanted to play well for them. I was trying as hard as I could," said Weir, who pulled out of Wednesday's pro-am because of the tendinitis.
"I'm at a point in my game right now that I'm struggling and everybody goes through it at some point in their career. You just have to keep working and fight your way out of it and no one's immune to it."
Weir, who missed the cut at last week's British Open, found himself in the rough at St. George's far too often and that was his ultimate undoing.
"I just played poorly," Weir said. "You know, no excuses. I just didn't play well."
Weir has missed the cut in 12 of 20 Canadian Opens he's played in, but won't be playing on the weekend for the first time since 2006.
