WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao will request a catch-weight of 150-pounds when he moves up to the junior middleweight division to challenge Antonio Margarito for the vacant WBC title on November 13.
Pacquiao's attorney Franklin Gacal told the Manila Bulletin a catch-weight of "150-pounds" will be requested by the Filipino champion. The weight is four pounds below Margarito's current fighting weight and three pounds above Pacquiao' current fighting weight of 147. Pacquiao will be going for his eight divisional title.
Gacal says the catch-weight request is fair for the 5'11 Margarito, telling the paper - “Margarito is big and tall even at super welter.”
Mike Koncz, Pacquiao’s adviser, told the paper he is still in the United States working out the terms. Pacquiao has yet to approve the fight. Koncz will meet with Pacquiao in a few days to review the proposal for the Margarito fight.
“I’ll get what’s the best deal that I could get for Manny,” Koncz said.

Two things: Manny's lawyer is an idiot. Any boxing fan knows how much harder it will be for Margarito to come down in weight than Pac to go up. This will destroy what little chance Margarito had in this fight.
And second, how the heck can they fight for a 154 lb belt and tell a fighter he can't weigh in a 154? Plus, how can they fight for a vacant title(WBC)? Shouldn't Cotto or Cory Spinks be allowed to fight for the belt to try to unify them?

The same way they made cotto fight with a catch weight at 145 for a 147 title belt. And probably margarito will give in because all he cares about is the payday. All I know is that this sucks because if you are that good you do not need to drain your opponent to have an advantage.I would like to see paquiao beat margarito at 154.That will prove he is the best.If you cant face an opponent at 154 then he should not be in that weight class. As for cotto vs spinks it sounds interesting they should unify since spinks has the ibf title.Jmo.

Here we go again, Roach trying to do his thing all over. They had Cotto go down to 145 to defend his 147pound title, making him look underweight and weak. Now they want Margarito to go down to 150 pounds. Apparently Manny's body won't hold more weigt without the use of juice and since Floyd's remarks they don't want to risk an investigation. If they fight in 154 pounds, margarito can go up to 164 pounds the day of the event and that will be a risk for the filipino.Check my avatar. :tape::tehe:

I don't know if I was ever gonna say this, but I actually feel bad for Margarito. If he accepts this, any little chance of him winning the fight just went out the window.
I agree with you guys in saying the belt shouldn't be fought by a Welterweight and a new JR Middleweight, I know this will be a huge payday for Margarito only if they fight in Vegas but he shouldn't accept the "catch weight king" demand no matter where they fight.
Margarito's body is already preped for 154, he's gonna look just Cotto did when he fought PAC, like a dried up cow. This is truly sad because this is gonna make more obvious that PAC is only fighting Margarito because he wants to be able to brag about 8 belts.
Are we sure that this the Pound for Pound champ, asking guys to drain themself before he fights them. Little by little everybody is noticing the same BS demands coming from PAC's camp, I'm sure someone in this forum will make a very good excuse on this catch weight nonsense.
This is also like Mayweather/Marquez when Floyd didn't make the weight. He looked so much bigger than Marquez. If Pac can't handle a bigger stronger weight division, maybe he shouldn't. There are plenty of eligible fighters closer to his weight class.

Top rank doesn't have any good boxers left at welterweight, Arum already said that he's gonna try to keep the money in house so that he'll make most of the profit. They would have either go up or down in weight, oddly enough the easier competition is at a higher weight.
That makes it look like Pac is afraid to fight the capable fighters in welterweight division. Andre Berto is making pretty good noises, lately.
You know, the weird thing to me is that although Manny claims 7 titles, he has none right now.
Oh well, I guess I can b*tch about these matches all I want....still isn't going to change anything.:beatin_horse:
