DN/Echo versus END USERS!!! It has started..
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We knew this could happen, but most said it never would. It's not IKS as of YET, but that doesn't mean that Dish/Echo won't go down that road with lawsuits. Look to see more suits forthcoming as DN unleashes it's arsenal of million-dollar legal teams, since we see that they are going back this far to get judgments on your average joe.

If you had read the court documents you'd see that these "end users" purchased "already altered and programed" receivers from dealers who were raided and had "end users" purchase records.

I read this on a different site, and it would have been nice to bring the 3 documents over for discussion- instead of only a doom prediction.
My take (and I'm sure someone will argue it, but my opinion is mine) is that the case of the dude selling altered receivers ended and they (court, provider) had the records (he kept detailed records) from his customers and now are now being questioned. These guys payed over $1000 dollars (some said $1500) for the altered receiver.
Because of the records being in their hands and the inflated price- common sense tells the court their purpose, now doesn't it. FTA receivers are legal to buy, sell, and have- but if you do any of these with altered programming- that's when it becomes illegal.
If you bought your receiver as it is and didn't alter it- there's no worry.
And for the ones that wish to say all receivers are illegal, consider that the provider once made and sold true fta receivers :)
The sky is still up there, check for yourself lol'ol

look I am not going to bad mouth iks or anyone. but becuse you have not saw it it's not so?. it's like the tree in the wood's you know the tree fall's down in the wood's no one is there dose it make a nose?. 100% yes you are not there but the bug's that got splot down and the sqerll that lost its lage will tell you yes it did. as thy where there and know that it did. but you keep telling your self that there was no nose. if some one get severed pepers thy keep it out of form's as not to let dn know more than thy know. it's all a game tell someone loses an eiy

Well all I can say is if your afraid no one is holding a gun to your head...turn it off.....everyone who uses one if they didnt accept the consequences they wouldn't be using one. When you steal there is always a risk....

This sums it up:
C/P
This would not matter if it were IKS, or standalone.
The lawsuits are based on the purchase and possession of equipment that was altered to receive pay sat signals. Groome was found guilty in in Dec, 2009 so we can assume they waited for the guilty verdict to go after end users, also keeping in mind the statute of limitations of 2 years. People have been warned for years to NEVER purchase anything pre-programmed by any dealer.
Simply put, these are "Free TV'ers" who not only paid way too much for FTA boxes to begin with, they were too lazy to program their own boxes, and decided to take them back to be updated by the dealer.
The one guy even canceled his sub shortly after he purchased the hacked FTA receiver. It has always been mentioned that people should maintain a subscription at some level.
1) they purchased pre-programmed receivers (based on price and a sales receipt)
2) they brought receivers in to be re-programmed/exchanged (based on some receipt for service)
3) they stole DN programing and content (based on cancellation of their subscriptions)
This story is not about end-users.... its about not-so-cleaver people who bought/exchanged receivers suspected to have been pre-programmed, received a receipt and paid for goods/services by traceable means, and also canceled contracts with a provider which left them, with a sat dish, associated equipment and wiring to facilitate the means to use the purchased receivers for suspected thief of DN programing.
It's sort of like wearing antlers and a brown coat in the forest during hunting season.....duh!!!!
