file C:\WINDOWS\System32\Drivers\fauwx.sys

can get this removed! any ideas

Get a linux boot disk and remove it from the drive while booted from the cd.
Try pressing F8 durring regular windows boot and see if you can remove it in safe boot.
I would do the first, but some can be removed in safe mode :)

couldnt in safe mode. LINUX boot disk?

its not a system file is it?

There's one called hyrens boot disk, some for bart PE, and a few other options.
What it does is boot from the cdrom into a windows (or windows like) envirement. Since the file system is on the cd- your pc hard-drive is accessable without the file restrictions.
Just boot from cd and then browse your pc and delete the offending files.
The reason you can't delete could be it registered and protected itself when it installed, or your anti-virus has locked it- either way a bootable disk will allow you to delete.
I know there are a bunch of different ones, but those are the two above that come to mind right now
