In an earlier report, BoxingScene.com broke the news that the WBO ordered Juan Manuel Marquez to defend his lightweight title against mandatory challenger Michael Katsidis. The WBO gave the two Golden Boy fighters 30-days to reach a deal before the sanctioning body orders a purse bid.
Katsidis has some competition as Amir Khan is trying to line up Marquez as the opponent for his next HBO date on December 11. BoxingScene received a statement from Katsidis on the WBO's ruling. He also advises Khan to back off. Both Katsidis and Khan were in Las Vegas last weekend to watch Marquez win a dominating decision over Juan Diaz.
"I have remained available to honour my commitment with the WBO and am very pleased to see why it is the WBO remains the most prestigious of boxing's orgnizations. The time has come for me to face the very elite of the sport, giving boxing fans world wide one of the greatest fights it will ever see, and as such is the reward of my teams effort," Katsidis said.
"I see recently Amir Kahn was observing closely the Diaz, Marquez clash... MARQUEZ IS MINE or else he is another conversation we should continue back in England. I've been there before, happy to do it again."
