c6 tranny problem

I am looking for some input on my tranny. I have a late 80s f250 with a 460 in it. I have 2nd, drive,and reverse.The problem I am having is when I shift into 1st, it locks up. It is if I put it in park. I have had people tell me different thinks but know one realy seams to know. Any input would be appreaceated.

sounds like when you are in first , you are actually engagied in 2 gears at once. You have to crack it open and check the valve body to start , and go from there.

Good suggestion, also check if this set up came loose and it is dialing something in the driver's view when it is really shifting into a different gear. I have seeing some came loose and when it is showing reverse the tranny is actually in Park.

ok so manually shifting into 1st gear locks the trans up no movement ? if so i would drop the pan and look at the rooster for the shifter make sure its ok and if so next i would pull off the driveshaft and the rear exyension housing to make sure the parking pawl isnt jaming in the rear case . hope this helps
