Scottrade Center, St. Louis - Before a crowd of over 9,000 screaming fans, IBF/WBC junior welterweight champion Devon Alexander (21-0, 13KOs) won a much tougher than expected twelve round unanimous decision over former champion Andriy Kotelnik (31-4-1, 13KOs). The score was 116-112 on all three cards. The next stop for Alexander is a likely showdown with Timothy Bradley on January 29.
The fight was very tough for Alexander, who suffered a bad cut above his right eye from a clash of heads in the early rounds. The blood was flowing all night long. Kotelnik was able to land a lot of hard punches throughout the fight and shook Alexander up several times. Alexander was able to stay on his feet and took everything that came his way and returned fire with hard combinations. There several close rounds where Alexander threw a lot more and Kotelnik landed better, and those rounds could have gone either way.
