This is a picture of my 1974 Vega hatch back. The picture was taken in February or March of 1979. It still has the cardboard temporary tag on it. And only had a little over 23,000 miles on it and was bought for $1150.00. As I said before not that it a rare car but if I had money to restore one this would be my pick because it was my first. Also my moms 1970 ford Galaxy 500 in the garage, my dads old 1953 mainline in between the garage and the shed. And the left rear of my brothers 1974 Monte Carlo. The young fellow standing there is snapper as a young buck. If I remember right I was still fifteen and had a few weeks before I turned sixteen. Also back in the day when things made sense.

:laughat: Close there burnsy. Back in the 70's we used to get some big snows here in North Carolina. But as the years have passed we seem to get less and less.

Hehe, I bought a new 1972 Chevy Vega GT Hatchback Coupe. $3275CDN.

Musta been a Friday afternoon or Monday morning car as everything busted on it. I sold it after 14 months for $1450. Bought a 73 Barracuda, it never broke once in two years.

The Vega was a fun car. Cornered like a go-cart with the factory Polyglass tires. Top speed was 102.5 mph, I remember because a cop pulled me over at that speed on a service road. lol

My brother bought a new 1975 Vega GT that was real sweet. My 1974 was automatic with after market air under the dash so it wasn't much on speed. If I remember right up to 1974 the vega had an aluminum cylinder block which would cause a lot of trouble after 50,000 miles or so. A cosworth Vega would be a rare find.

First car was a '62 Ford Galaxie 500 with a 352ci gas guzzler. When I first started driving this car, gasoline was only 49 cents per gallon!!! but it used so much fuel that I couldn't afford it.

Sold it to a buddy and I bought a '71 Vega....yes, there were problems with the aluminum blocks and if I remember correctly, the factory authorized a re-bore of the cylinders with steel sleeves inserted and all I had to come up with was approx $75 for that job. I had bought a 283 small block and Powerglide for the Vega but all I ended up doing was install an L88 hoodscoop and then sold the whole works so I could afford a '77 Ford F100.

The good old days.
