Manny Pacquiao vs Antonio Margarito: It Ain’t No Mega-Fight, But You’ll Still Pay To See It!
http://www.doghouseboxing.com/Media/arrow.gif By Joseph “The Mad Boxing Genius” Torres (Aug 9, 2010) Doghouse Boxing (Photo Art © Coyote Duran, MaxBoxing) http://doghouseboxing.com./Media2/Pacquiao_H1_Duran.jpg For a man who’s done everything wrong, the former “Most Avoided Man In Boxing” is being rewarded as if he’s done everything right.

November, 13th, 2010, Antonio Margarito will be thrust back into big time boxing where he’ll stand to earn the biggest purse of his career and win another title in a second division against Manny Pacquiao.

As it’s been well documented, Antonio Margarito was caught moments before his 2009 bout with Shane Mosley, loading his gloves to get an unfair and dangerous advantage. For his actions, he had his California boxing license revoked for 1 year. However, “The Tijuana Tornado” has managed to keep his name in the loop by his handling of the situation’s aftermath.

Once suspended by the California State Athletic Commission, Antonio Margarito entertained the idea of disobeying his 1 year ban by fighting in his native homeland of Mexico. Although the idea was eventually nixed, it’s a thought that should have never entered anyone’s mind.

After the one year period had come to pass, instead of re-applying for a license in California, he went ahead and scheduled a fight in Mexico against Roberto Garcia (W10). To top it all off, when he finally decided to re-apply for his license to be eligible to fight in America, he begged for forgiveness in Nevada, a state that had nothing to do with the incident at hand.

His actions have fuelled tremendous anger among boxing fans and industry experts alike to the point where some are even calling for his complete removal from the sport all together. Of course, that is not the case as of now and won’t likely be the case later on. If you go to the social media platforms, the forums, the chatroom and the blogs, there are a significant amount of boxing fans who have vowed to boycott any and all Antonio Margarito fights.

It’s officially unclear on how or why “The Tijuana Tornado” won the Manny Pacquiao sweepstakes although there are theories out there that may be more fact than fiction. Nevertheless, it is what it is and whether we want it or not, Manny Pacquiao will be taking on Antonio Margarito on November 13th, instead of the number two pound for pound best fighter in the world Floyd Mayweather Jr.

The question begs whether this fight will be able to do the numbers a Manny Pacquiao PPV event can usually produce because of all the bad blood between his opponent and the fans. I bet it will.

Yes, the buying public is angry at Antonio Margarito as well they should be. But, boxing fans are a funny bunch. We’re a rare breed and what we vow to do with such intensity and emotion now may not what we will do tomorrow. We’re all promoters at heart in that respect!

Right around November 8th, fans will start reasoning out why they should purchase or attend the fight (if there are any tickets left). It’s what I call “Teenage Logic”. When a teenager is told not do something but does it anyway, they reason out why they need to disobey their parents because it’s for their own good or for the good of their parents. Deep down inside these young adults know their actions are wrong but they’ll succumb to the temptation. And on November 13th, we all will as well.

No matter where in the world Pacquiao will fight, fans will follow him. They will fill hotel rooms, casinos, bars, to get a chance to watch a demonstration of boxing prowess and high calibre of work ethics. He does not dance around (like someone we know); he does not avoid confrontation; he goes about doing his business the best way he can - boxing, power punching, jabbing, lethal combinations of hooks, uppercuts, and punishing blows - no matter who is in the ring - zig-zagging along the way.

It is like watching "The Karate Kid". You already know what the ending will be but you still get the thrill of watching till it gets there. This is not like "Inception" where you have to wreck your brain just to understand what is going on. It is like RAMBO....pure unadulterated non-stop action.

Margarito or whoever is in the ring are just "supporting cast". It all has to do with Pacquiao's "market value".

Sounds like a Superhero, remember that all have their weaknesses, needles and blood seem to be Superpac's. :tehe: :bump:

To the poor people of Sarangani province and General Santos, Manny Pacquiao is more than a superhero. He represents hope: Hope for getting the province a hospital and medical care for the people; hope for a better educational system; hope to elevate thousands of people from extreme poverty; hope for better jobs through the establishment of a research and manpower agency; hope for a better management of natural resources (he plans to upgrade agricultural systems to increase gross production and export).

It is a stature that none of us here in this forum could ever dream to achieve. He is where he is because of his gargantuan achievements. Thus, to ridicule him for his superstitious beliefs is really hitting below the belt, and sadly uncalled for. Sorry, Bud!

You wrote this not me. Making a God out of a humble man is your mistake not mine. Rambo is not real, he is.

His superstitious beliefs, like you say, its keeping him from making lots of money so he can accomplish all the good things that you just mention. There is money in the Philippines, you just have to deal with the thieves that have ruled the country for many years. Sadly. Sorry if you misunderstood me. :offtopic1:

I am not sure where it is in my post that I "made a God out of a humble man"?:no::no:

I think there is an insidious plot to continue to "blame Pacquiao for the idiotic antics" of Floyd Mayweather (who annointed himself as Saviour of Boxing by unilaterally imposing his blood testing rule over and above all BOXING COMMISSIONS in the world). Most boxing experts (and not me) conclude that all of Mayweather's rants and demands are all indicative of his cowardice to face Pacquiao. Isn't it about time to swallow that truth no matter how bitter?

There was no misunderstanding at all. I knew all along what your comments intended to communicate! Thus, apology about that is unnecessary!

As for your most "simplistic suggestion" to deal the "thieves" that ruled the Philippines, perhaps a lesson in history and current events might help clarify this.

There are despots all over the world: Afghanistan, Iraq, Indonesia, Vietnam, Burma, Africa, and countless other countries; thieves who transport containers of billions of US DOLLAR currency for deposit to banks in Dubai in the private accounts of corrupt officials - right under the watchful eyes of customs officials.

What makes you believe that all Pacquiao has to do is earn $100 million and save his country from graft and corruption?

It is a sick world we live in and it all starts with GREED - making those millions of dollars by whatever means, including stealing from the poor, and killing thousands in the process. It will not be eradicated because of flawed human nature.

Fortunately, Pacquiao is not one who will prostitute himself by acceding to the demands of a greedy egotistical idiot like Mayweather - just to earn $100 million. For that I and many others have great respect for him as an individual.

Boxing is a dirty business, if your hero decided to box he got himself in a dirty world. The fact that he went up in weight the way he did, brought about
suspicious thoughts among the boxing fans. This included Floyd and his peeps. Since Roach and Arum were the ones to approach the Mayweather fam. to put in a mega fight between both of them, so blood test were required to proof that nothing illegal was going on. To bad that the superstitious beliefs were activated by this requirement, otherwise we would have seen a hell of a fight. Or was some other things that Pac wanted to hide? Remember this is a dirty world he's in,( even if he's not dirty.)
About the boxing commission, dirty as the business, all they want is money.
You never know the truth, bitter or sweet. I take back my apology, you are a fan. :offtopic1:

The critics of this fight, and they are many, are saying that there are better and more entertaining fighters out there than a tainted and probably over rated fighter(how many fights did he cheat in before he got caught).

Lets see if we can see the progression here. Margarito got caught with illegal wraps and got thoroughly beaten by Shane Mosley, who proceeded to get a** whupped by Mayweather. So this makes Margarito what? Oh, the next fight for Pacquiao. Heck, Mosley makes more sense than Margarito. But Arum is just looking for a good paycheck for himself by pitting 2 of his fighters against each other.

Who on here doesn't see Margarito as the sacrificial lamb? And who really sees this as anywhere better than Clottey? I will watch the fight only if one of the boxes has it. Otherwise, I think I will pass. May pass anyway, depending on what else in on that night.

Oh yeah, based on the results of the Margarito/Mosley and the Mosley/Mayweather fights, the Pac/Margarito fight shouldn't last past the 1st or 2nd round. Otherwise, a lot of critics are going to say Mayweather is the better fighter given the results. Heck, some already have Mayweather back on top.

I'm gonna watch this just because I love boxing, I personally don't like Margarito as PAC's opponent, but that's not my call. I think PAC is gonna win by KO but we'll see, I just don't like his lack of defense and speed, maybe he'll use a hail mary and get lucky.

Anyone betting on Margarito should make a lot of money if he won. But lets face facts, it just isn't gonna happen. That would be a MAJOR upset!!!!!

Oscar is tall, Emmanuel Dapidran Pacquiao is a small man. It's easy for a tall man to go up in weight and keep his speed and punch but even though Oscar lost speed and punch when he did. Had to depend of his boxing skills not his punch. Muscular mass is what we're talking about, not weight. Look at Manny then... and now.:innocent:

I am with you on this, Senor! I would even watch Chris Areola...just because I love boxing (but I would definitely change channels when the bell rings after 12 rounds because I would hate to hear Chris' incessant use of foul language).

Margarito is being given a chance to get back to work after his demeanor. If he puts in a great showing with Pacquiao, he may regain some respect. If he loses badly, he may start thinking of opening a pizza delivery business with "lots of wrappings and trimmings"....delivered within 12 rounds....er....I mean....12 minutes! :)

Same way, if Emmanuel Dapidran Pacquiao can't beat Margarito should, besides his political career, take the position of president of the Filipino American Red Cross Chapter. :tehe:

You know what, Areola was on last Friday night fights and Brian Kennedy joked with him about going a full interview without cursing, he definately looks uncomfortable not cursing.

You are definitely right about Margarito, if he doesn't put a great outing, people are gonna doubt him even more. I'm one of those people who thinks he's way over his head, maybe he'll prove me wrong. But I wouldn't bet on it.

Muscular mass have nothing to do with boxing. It even slow a fighter down. What's important is speed and punching power which Pacman naturally possesses. And if Pacman is hiding something how come he is agreeing to all of
Mayweather's demand. Mayweather is the one who is hiding and running away.

So open your ears and eyes Amigo.:comfort1::innocent:
