OK all my fellow Hams.

I have an Icom 706 MKII G that I just pulled out of storage after 2 years, (worked fine before storage) plugged the unit in and it won’t power up, I checked all fuses and cleaned all connections but I can't get the thing to power up, it’s getting power to the inside as I checked the internal fuse for the accessories, I have 13.8 VDC there, I have pulled the unit apart and checked all internal caps and resistors, pulled the front panel apart and checked the power switch, everything looks good but wont power up.

Anyone have any ideas as to what could be wrong as I'm stumped?:noidea:

Well I got it fixed, found a service manual in PDF on line, and after an all day trouble shooting session and dragging out some test equipment I haven used in 5 years I finally found a bad feed through on a power circuit trace.

??????

A bad feed through in a transceiver that worked OK before storage?

????

Hummmmm somethings not right with that, but after some very tricky soldering (with a magnifying glass) and a jumper wire it works fine, nice radio now.

Hummmm bad feed through hummmmm??

Hi Terryl, Sorry you had a problem with your MK11-G, I have had mine for about six years and never gave me any trouble, great little rig. I have heard other hams telling stories about the same thing happening to them. Sounds like the juice flows fine when you use it, but when you park it for a prolonged time electrolysis corrosion sets in and you get what happened to your rig. It is nice that you where able to get it going again. Anyhow it is nice to know other hams are on the site. 73,
