Bell Centre, Montreal, Quebec, Canada– In a shocker, WBC Light Heavyweight champ, Jean Pascal (26-1, 16 KOs) upset consensus #1 Light Heavyweight in the world, Chad Dawson (29-1, 17 KOs).
The bout was characterized by Pascal fighting in bursts while Dawson was losing rounds based on inactivity. Little serious actually landed for Pascal, but the sheer work rate managed to put Pascal comfortably ahead in the bout going into the championship rounds. Dawson was able to land and hurt Pascal, but he simply didn’t punch often enough to gain control of the contest.
In the eleventh, Dawson clearly hurt Pascal and was landing some sharp, stinging shots. Unfortunately for Dawson, an accidental clash of heads caused a large cut that put an end to the contest.
Going to the scorecards, Pascal was comfortably ahead: 108-101, 106-103, 106-103. The Boxing Tribune had it scored 107-102 for Pascal
Pascal indicated, post-fight, that he’d like a contest with fellow Canadian, Lucian Bute while Dawson said that he would hold Pascal to the rematch clause for another shot.
