Fernando Beltran, president of Zanfer Promotions, says the decision for Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. to cancel a planned September fight, and head straight to a showdown with Miguel Cotto on December 4, was the right one to make. Chavez Jr. was going to fight on September 11 before pulling out. Zanfer co-promotes Chavez with Top Rank. Chavez will challenge Cotto for the WBA junior middleweight title.

Top Rank, which also promotes Cotto, is putting together a deal for the fight. New York's Madison Square Garden is a likely venue to hold the event.

"Cotto's people have already accepted the fight for December 4, so going forwad on September 11 against Pawel Wolak would have been putting that fight at risk. In boxing, nothing is certain and an injury or a cut could affect the negotiations for a big fight like Cotto," said Beltran to reporter Sal Rodriguez.

"Everybody is aware that it will be difficult for Julio to reach the super welterweight limit, which is why he will be training full steam with a special plan in place for the fight in order to reach his peak condition for the contest."
