how to modified Tivo to work without subscription?

I have a Tivo 2 dvr model 2400040. Is there a way to make this DVR record without subsription fee?
I turned this box on and it guided me to activate the box. There is no way to basiclly record this box without activation.

the tivo is useless without a subscription. with no guide information you can't record, set favs or season passes ect.
i like getting stuff for free too but man we can't steel everything. it's not that expensive.:)

I don't even own one but if you do a Google on 'Hacking a Tivo' you will see some hits that claim to work.

thanks guys for info. I guess I bought a piece of junk then. My mistake that, when I bought it from a homeless, It work and actived. there are lot record show on drive and I can access to alot of function. I accident deleted and clean to factory default, and It booted with activation screen. Damn it, I shouldn't do that. It was $10 trashed. Tivo subscription is a grip off. 12-15 dollars for a month, just for recording. I can buy a new satellite box with usb recording function. Thread close early again.
