if I buy a new reciver and I want to keep both together, is there a way I can split the main coax cable dish signal and make it go to 2 recivers? is this possible?

Yes but only with a 4x4 switch, (4 in, 4 out) or if your LNB has a second output, this can be run to a second receiver, but you cant use a splitter.

You can also try the Loop-out port and feed both receivers with just 1 cable comming into the house, but usualy the second receiver will be limited as to what it can view. If you turn the first one off with the remote, the second one should work just fine. To watch both at the same time the second one will be limited to the same Ver or Hor transponder that the first receiver is on (but this seems to vary depending on the brands of receivers in use).

what do you mean by using loop out port? which port is that? but is there any type of splitter switch that splits 1 dish signal to give 2 outputs?

Most FTA receivers have a special port in the back for connecting 2 receivers together, usualy named "Loopout", you run a cable from the "Loopout" port on the first receiver to the regular LNB-In port on the second receiver.

The only switch that lets you do that with one cable is a DP-34 or DPP-44 switch, and you have to use Dishpro LNB's with them (except on port 4 of the DPP-44 where you can use a Stradard LNB)

If you are using Legacy/Standard LNB's then you can use a 3x4 or 4x4 switch but they need 2 cables from the LNB to the switch which then gives you up to 4 outputs.

Only with Dish pro receivers and dish pro LNB's, normal FTA receivers use a DC control voltage to switch LNB polarity's, you cant use a 1 in and 2 out TV type splitter as they don't pass the DC voltage, there are some that are marked for satellite but they wont work with FTA equipment as the 2 receivers will fight each other for control of the LNB, if you use the loop output both receivers have to be on the same polarity or one receiver in standby or one receiver may have power supply problems, you can't have 2 power supply's on the same circuit as they would have to be a special type.

It would be best to use one of the switch setups that Mavrick has posted or run a new coax from the second LNB output to the new receiver.

You can use an AB switch. But make sure both receivers are turned off when you change the AB switch from A or B. You can only watch one receiver at a time with the AB switch.
