Well Canadien fans can sleep a little easier now or can they? He`s got one of the toughest places in the world to make a comeback in and on top of that he has to do better than Halak did as he made his goodbye tour in the playoffs. The Montreal fans won`t be patient and if he gets off to a rough start it could spell the end of Carey Price. Tough road to hoe---Good luck Carey.

As per TSN

Montreal Canadiens general manager Pierre Gauthier has saved himself a major headache as the team announced Thursday that they had signed restricted free agent goaltender Carey Price to a two-year contract. The deal is worth $5.5 million.

"We are extremely happy that Carey has agreed to pursue his career with the Canadiens," Gauthier said in a statement. "Carey is a key member of our Club. He has proven that he has what it takes to be a good goaltender in the league, and we are confident he will perform to the best of his abilities for years to come in a Canadiens uniform."

The 23-year old Price was anointed the Canadiens starting goaltender earlier this summer when playoff hero Jaroslav Halak was traded to the St. Louis Blues for prospects Lars Eller and Ian Schultz.

It took much longer than the Canadiens anticipated to get Price to sign on the dotted line leading to a great deal of tension in La Belle Province. One report that was later refuted stated that Price was ready to "go on strike" if he did not receive a $3 million a season offer from the Canadiens.

In 41 games last season, Price posted a 13-20-5 record with a 2.77 goals against average and a .912 save percentage. He also appeared in four playoff games for the Habs.

The Canadiens have a great deal of faith in Price's pedigree as he was the first player in hockey history to be named Canadian Hockey League Goaltender of the Year, World Junior Championship Tournament MVP in Canada's gold medal run and win the AHL Playoff Most Valuable Player Trophy in helping the Hamilton Bulldogs capture the Calder Cup, all in the same year.

A native of Williams Lake, BC, Price was selected in the first round, fifth overall by the Canadiens at the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

Looks like Carey didnt get a better offer so the Canadians gave him the 5.5 million.. Not worth that with his track record..

you sure got that right bro-----but Montreal has created it`s own problems re netminders-----Halak hated it in Montreal, he made no bones about leaving when the season was over. Pro goalies don`t exactly line up to play there---front office is kinda known to be wishy washy and prone to emotional moves. Montreal is now locked into Price for the short term anyway--they had to cough up the cash for a starter who is a second string goalie, but Price is young and impressionable----a tough combo for a goalie in Montreal.

Thank the local media for that.. Some newspapers devote 20 pages a day to NHL hockey 18 of them on the Canadians..
Its not easy on mangers since its the only pro sport in Montreal in winter.. No NBA , CFL Football is over in early November..
Well Bob Gainey was smart he named a front man to face the media and take the flack...LOL:thumbsup:

Yup-----Gainey no doubt is a defensive genius in positioning & strategy. Only problem was that the Canadiens of last year didn`t have the drive or the willingness to go in the trenches when they had to. Their size or lack of it killed them although they were quite successful in the playoffs until the bell rang to send the "would bes" home. Once the hitting started vs Philly the fast, small Montreal frwds simply quit.

Yup---on paper they look good for this year, they`ll be hungry cause they got a taste of it last year. A ton of this year will depend on Price-----he plays good and they`ll gain confidence and be able to play a little more freewheeling to use their speed------if he don`t -----doomsday, they`ll have to tighten up defensively, their worst trait.

At least the Habs got that settled. Now it's definitely time to put up or shut up for Price. Something tells me the media and fans are going to run him out of town.
