Mexico's most popular boxer Juan Manuel Marquez has agreed to face Australian boxing sensation, Michael Katsides on November 27th at the MGM Grand Garden arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Marquez is fresh from his victory via a unanimous decision over Juan Diaz last July 31st at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Prior to his rematch with Diaz, Marquez fought Floyd Mayweather Jr. in September 2009, losing via a unanimous decision.

Marquez (51-5-1, 37 KOs) was Mayweather's first opponent after the undefeated American boxer came out of retirement after almost two years of inactivity.

Mayweather has been widely criticized for coming up two pounds over agreed weight and paying Marquez $600,000 penalty for the two pound excess.

Marquez reportedly made almost four million dollars including the penalty, while Mayweather made $10 million for a fight that generated just about a million in pay-per-view buys.

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer said Marquez has accepted the terms of a deal to defend his WBO belt against Katsides, the all-action Australian slugger

After failing to interest Manny Pacquiao in a third fight, Marquez agreed to a mandatory title defense against Katsides (27-2, 22 KOs), who has revitalized his career with four straight victories following back-to-back losses to Joel Casamayor and Diaz.

"It's just a matter of getting it papered up," Schaefer said, promising another significant fight on the Thanksgiving weekend card. "It's a great challenge for Juan, and a very interesting fight for fans."

Marquez who is 37 years old, stands 5'7", with a reach of 67" while Katsides is 32 years old, stands 5'7", with a reach of 66". Both are orthodox boxers.

Katsides is the current WBO interim lightweight champion and is ranked by The Ring magazine as the world's No. one lightweight contender.

Katsides is fresh from his victory over Kevin Mitchell via KO last May 15th at Uptown Park Stadium in east London.

WBO and WBA super lightweight titles are on the line.
