Well I`m surprised at this outcome-----I`ll confess I haven`t seen the fight, didn`t take a lot of interest in it cause I figured it was a gimme ---the other way LOL. So much for what I know..............

Unheralded Scotsman Ricky Burns captured a stunning 12 round unanimous decision victory over previously unbeaten Roman ‘Rocky’ Martinez moments ago at Kelvin Hall in Glasgow, Scotland. The gallant Burns climbed off the deck after being dropped in the first round and shockingly took the fight to the rugged Martinez through out the majority of the bout. He out-threw and out-landed the Puerto Rican champion by a significant margin in what was a rugged war of attrition. Both fighters engaged in a give and take brawl and each man had the other in trouble at various points in the fight. Martinez rallied late in the bout but the game Scottish fighter came roaring back and had Martinez out on his feet in the final round. Martinez showed a lot of heart and chin to survive the final stanza but after 12 rounds were complete Burns was ahead on all three official cards by scores of 115-112, 115-112 and 115-113. With the win he captured the WBO super featherweight title and improved to 29-2 (7 KOs). The bout was surly a “Fight of the Year” candidate!
