I looked around for sources of free maps for gps.

Found these sites and the maps are kept current, as of this posting anyways.

I would use these to supplement your garmin maps.

ALWAYS back up your existing maps so they can be reloaded in the event of a problem!

Good Luck!

I'll keep an eye out for other sites that can be posted here and encourage other members to help.

Xxxxxxxx has the latest City Navigator for your Garmin. I'm using 2011.030 (unlocked) which is the lateset. You can grab North America or Europe

sorry for the mistake

No worries, but I need to ask if the links you posted are for copyrighted material? If so then they need to be removed as we don't allow that here. I would've sent you a PM but you have not allowed that.

was not sure if it was copyright or not so I removed my post

I have downloaded the Garmin maps from OpenStreetMaps and used them. I didn't go for the whole world. I found some errors and being part of the OpenStreetMaps project, I corrected them.

Of course I found errors in the Garmin maps as well but cannot correct them.

Many of the maps are updated weekly. Most are monthly.

And as a note, to use at your own risk, as Garmin will not warranty a unit that has freeware maps in it, you are SOL if you send it in for repair if the download FUBAR'ed your GPS.(yes Kids it does happen)

They cost next to nothing...they're in same class as disposable lighters..

Wouldn't worry about warranty....The maps almost cost more than the hardware

In two years, no issues.

Garmin even provides beta software to test if you are so inclined.
