What are you trying to do? Use it as a bridge to a receiver?

Go to your "Network Connections" click once on the WIFI interface then right click, this will bring up a second menu, select "Bridge connections" and select the LAN card, this should enable the WIFI to bridge the Internet to the LAN card.

Do you have internet access through the WIFI connection?
If YES then what is the IPV4 (IP) address of the wireless connection. Please post the address if there is one
He should PM that to you, it would be a bit dangerous to post that on this world wide forum, too many dingbats out there to take advantage of it.

Yes, I suppose you are correct but I meant the LAN address assigned to the wifi card not the WAN address.
I asked the question just as we did in a similar extensive post which got resolved yesterday. In any case a PM would be the prper route to follow. I will delete that post and send a PM.

After much searching, I found this site on home networking:
http://www.home-network-help.com/internet-connection-sharing.html
which deals with ICS in Windows 7 specifically here:
http://www.home-network-help.com/windows-7-internet-connection-sharing.html
Perhaps this will help.

it is very important to make sure you are using a crossover cable, not a standard straight through cable. i see what you are attempting to do and without a cross over cable the send is going to send and receive is going to receive so there is no communication between the lancard on the laptop and the wf

sorry but I think the problem is in WIN7 and sofar there is no fix available yet....only XP works with this type of configuration to the WF.
sorry for the news but I have tested this on both my laptops after I installed WIN7 on my newest HP6000 and cannot get the sound to function.
But the HP4000 with XP seems to work just fine, maybe some one knows of a fix now, but I have not read of one yet.

I have Vista Home Premium on my HP laptop with ICS on the WIFI card, Straight Thru Cat 5e to the fta box and works fine. Windows 7 Starter Edition does not have ICS but the other editions are supposed to have it. My daughter's HP laptop has Windows 7 with WIFI but I can't get my hands on it right now. One difference in Win 7 is that the address assign to LAN card e.g. is 192.168.137.1 instead of 192.168.0.1 as in previous editions.
I have suggested in a PM to check that the LAN card is enabled in Manage Network Connections in the Network and Sharing Centre

Enabled means that it is functioning or working. Right click on Local Area Connection and in the box that opens see if it says Enable or Disable

I had this same problem a few days ago, turns out that my LAN card was set to an IP that was already being used on the network I was connecting to with the wifi, so I was getting the same "network cable unplugged" message your getting..........
Go to network connections right-click on the Local Area Connection, then Properties, then highlite Internet Protocol then click the Properties button. It should pop-up another box with the options of "Obtain IP Automaticlly" or "Use The Following IP Address", which one is it set to?

I now have my daughters HP laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate. It has an Intel WIFI card and Realtek Ethernet NIC. I have my Nfusion Phoenix working through the laptop using ICS. All I did was to make sure Local Area Connection was Enabled, connect ethernet cable to fta box and laptop. Then enable Sharing on the Wireless Network Connection and reboot the fta receiver.
The Local Area Connection has an IP address of 192.168.0.1 which is contrary to what I read earlier. The Nfusion has an IP address of 192.168.0.138 and is working.Simple and straight forward.
If you continue to get Network Cable Unplugged or a Red X beside Local Area Connection
then make sure the cable is properly inserted or try a different cable. As a test I removed the cable from the fta receiver and got the red X beside the Local Area Connection meaning cable is unplugged. I don't know what of receiver you have but maybe the NIC in the receiver is no good or the Dongle, if there is one, has come loose.

Hi maverick Thanks ...it is set to 192.168.137.1...what do I do next...thanks
So it's set to "Use The Following IP Address" with this IP (192.168.137.1)?
If so lets first try to set it to "Obtain IP Automaticlly" and then re-boot everything and see if that fixes the "network cable unplugged" message.

Hmmmm, I'm starting to think there is an issue with the LAN card itself. Right-click My Computer, then click Properties, then click the Hardware Tab, click Devise Manager, scroll down to Network Adapters and click the + sign and find your LAN card. Is there a yellow or red "!" on it at all?

You need a CAT5 (or 6) cross over cable (orange colored) to get the communications right between the two.
Can you plug your laptop directly into the router or modem via the LAN connection on the laptop and a CAT5 cable? (or a network switch?)
This will tell you if your LAN connector on the laptop is FUBAR or not, if you get nothing then it’s a trip back to the store were you got it.

Look at the screen shots from my system (Vista). See if you can set yours up the same way. Use DHCP in your receiver's network settings if you can. Then reboot receiver I'll be away for the rest of the day. Will check back later. Good luck.

You actually don't need to enter any IP address's anywhere, at all, at any time during this procedure. All you have to do is check the box for "Allow other network users to connect through the computer's internet connection" as shown in image ICS #3 for the Wireless Network Connection and then click OK. That's it.All the rest is done for you automatically. Whatever IP address the Wireless Connection got from the hotspot will stay the same. Whatever IP address that is given to the Local Area Connection is determined by enabling Sharing on the Wireless Network Connection
If DHCP is chosen for the network settings for the Viewsat, an IP address is automatically entered for that as well as long as the cable is connected between computer and receiver. You don't need to enter anything here either. It's all done automatically.
You don't need to worry about a disabling a "Firewall" either. If you want to disable it, go ahead, it won't make any difference. I never disable mine.
All those ZERO's you have for the receiver's IP address means the receiver has no IP address at all and that's why your receiver doesn't work.
Try these instructions and see what happens.

1) What is the IP address assign to the Wireless Network Connection on the Laptop computer?
2)What is the IP address assign to Local Area Connection on the Laptop computer?
3) Are you able to select a DHCP network setting on the fta receiver?
4) You keep referring to "WF" as in "i powered up WF". I don't understand what are referring to.

this may help you .. you will see that the beginning of this is good ..make sure that you have done all that ..
it will get you to where all the screens are ..
THe thing that will be different for you is that you will go to your WIFI connection and share that ..
then are going to the ethernet
the entry 192.168.137.1 is fine for you ..
do not fill in the DNS entry . click the box optain DNS automatically ..

I watched the tutorial as well. When I set up ICS on my daughter's laptop, which runs Win 7 Ultimate, I did not need to go thru any of these steps. Sharing was setup on the Wireless Connection. I followed the same procedure as in Vista and XP. The IP address of the LAN connection was 192.168.0.1 not 192.168.137.1. I do not understand the difference in the IP assignment.
If railbird has an IP address of 192.168.0.1 on the LAN connection then I would like to suggest that a Static address of 192.168.0.2 be used on the fta receiver.
Similarly if the LAN address is 192.168.137.1 then perhaps a Static address of 192.168.137.2 should be used.

All zero's are not good. Doesn't mean that there's a problem with the receiver. When I was experimenting I got the same thing. Just means that the receiver didn't get an IP address assigned to it. Try using a static address in the receiver as I suggested above. Like I said before I'm not familiar with Viewsat. I use Nfusion so the networking set up might be different. Can't help you there. Maybe you should post in the Viewsat forum and ask for help concerning the network set up.

Yes either one of these should work given the info at hand ..
that being said the default would be best unless there is an issue .. as it would be easier for someone else to help

This is just a thought. Railbird, your first post here was on Sept 15th. On Sept 14 a new file for your receiver, PFTAHDSW-100909H wf was posted. This for the Viewsat 9000HD Weather Forecaster. Have you upgraded to this latest file?
