This is a synopsis in a scoop by Dan Rafael of ESPN.com:
Finally, another fabulous encounter has been inked between Junior Welterweight champ Amir Khan against Marcos Maidana.
Maidana came to prominence as he overwhelmed a few tough opponents in the light welterweight division, including a TKO of Victor Ortiz, and KO of William Gonzales, and Victor Cayo. He is 29-1 with 27 KOs which is a 90% KO record.
However, his only loss was against Andre Kotelnik via split decision.
Kotelnik, however, surrendered a unanimous decision against Khan last July 2009. Khan's only loss was when Brendis Prescott caught him with a "phantom" punch. Because of that single loss by KO, many believe he is vulnerable and does not have a good chin. Thus, there is great interest in this match up because Maidana is known to have heavy hands.
This fight would be very interesting. But before we go there, here are the interesting financial aspects. Amir is putting his belts on the line for a minimum guarantee of $1.5 million plus a percentage of UK PPV sales. Maidana is dangled a $550,000 purse AND a sizable bonus if he wins. Both fighter appear to be quite happy with the arrangement.
Now, some interesting perspective. While Maidana's record is frightening, I was not impressed with his showing against DeMarcus Corley last month. Corley does not have an impressive record and could very well be past his prime yet he gave Maidana fits. If he were to show up with the same performance against Amir Khan, he has no chance whatsoever. Since tutored by Freddie Roach, Khan has improved substantially both ih his defense and in his quickness and power. His last five outings have been very impressive particularly last December when he blasted Dimitry Salita with an incredible bomb to put him out in one round. I also like what he did to Paulie Malignaggi who is known to be a slippery fellow in the ring.
This bout will be a sellout as it will expose either fighter. Nonetheless, I give my thumbs up to Amir Khan - by KO or TKO within 10.

Thanx aqua-----this should be a beauty to be sure. And you`re right in that expose a lot in both fighters-----we`ll see if Khan has picked up his "D", he`s gonna spend some time in this fight needing it----he can`t do the all-offense thing with Maidana and get away with it.
I`m thinking Khan in a decision----but I`ll go Maidana by TKO, just to be me.

Well, I take Marcos Maidana also by ko in the late rounds of the fight.

Why not we can`t "just get along" in some cases LOL----besides unless Khan is a cram learner I still don`t think he has had the time under Roach to muster the "D" for Maidana once he becomes flustered.

Not too many people knew that Amir Khan was a sparring partner of Manny Pacquiao before he came out to make a name for himself. Besides, he has been boxing since he was 11 years old, winning many amateur fights including gold at the 2003 junior olympics. AT the age of 17, he was Britain's sole olympic boxer and won silver. He lost the gold to a cuban fighter named Mario Kindelan who had beaten him twice. However, he avenged that loss against Kindelan as an amateur.
In a fight against Willie Limond (latest casualty vs. Eric Morales), Amir was knocked down twice in the 6th round BUT he recovered and knocked out Limond in the 8th round (broke Limond's jaw and nose in the process).
So my friend, this guy is no prima donna. He has had very tough fights in his pro career including a vicious KO of Victor Ortiz.
He will not only entertain you, and Fibroso, he will also surprise you with the outcome. if I were you, I'd not bet against him. Hehehehe!

I wonder if Kahn remember's Breidis Prescott??His victory over Barrera hmmm..Malinaggi was a joke as well..Perhaps he is just a whipping boy for Pacquaio?Or perhaps we will see what Khan can actually do in the ring against Maidana..JMO..

Hope you didn`t read me wrong pal---Never mean`t to suggest Khan was a prima donna, he`s not. What I mean`t by what I said is that he lacks sorely in "D" (when I`ve seen him) and maybe that`s why some of his less heralded fights turned out to be "wars" when they shouldn`t have been. At any rate if he hasn`t done his homework Maidana will expose it---if he has he`ll be a work of art in the making. My big problem with him is that he gets flustered and goes all offense when in trouble---he won`t get away with it as he climbs the ladder. JMO

"PRIMA donna's" are those boxers who have been "nursed" to championship status by getting them in the ring with third class candidates. And no, I did not think you were inferring that he is. I merely wanted to point out that Amir Khan rose into prominence in boxing because of his impeccable record as an amateur. In Britain, he is put into the same category as Prince Ahmed, not necessarily for flashy and glitzy antics in the ring but for his quickness, skills, and entertaining style.
As for his "all out offensive style" being assessed as "lacking in defensive strategy", that is an anomaly. You will notice that successful boxers (like Pacquiao, Alexander, Williams, Hatton [in his prime], Gatti, Marquez, Morales, Tyson, & many others) like to "swarm" their opponents with rapid fire burst of combinations, particularly when they see an opening. "Offence is the best defense". A boxer that is hurt and goes into a defensive retreat is bound to be knocked out.
Roach has been very successful with his pupils because he teaches them body, head movement, and great anticipation. A fighter who does not have to spend energy defending against blows with flailing arms can concentrate on inflicting damage with quick combinations. (That is Pacquiao's trademark. He avoids getting hit by quick body movement, yet attacks furiously.)
So what I am saying is that Amir Khan can upset Maidana only because of one great advantage: speed. Khan has learned his lesson with Prescott. He is going to be Roach's next biggest star.

Sadly, I agree with almost everything----BUT, LOL-----I still see Khan as a guy that gets flustered easily at least when I`ve seen him, and goes on an all out attack forgetting any form of "D" while doing it---so far he`s been successful at it--but he hasn`t fought the likes of Maidana yet. I don`t see that if Khan wins it would be that great an upset---both these fighters have the ability to take each other to school. I like Maidana`s composure over that of Khan if each gets hurt or is in trouble in this fight and I`m sure both will be under some pressure at some time. Who reacts best may be difference in winning or losing. I`ll go Maidana.
Now watch Khan ko him inside of 2 rnds and we still wont know LMAO

...that is what happened when he was knocked out by Prescott! But I will bet dollars to donuts that Prescott would be a dead duck if they fought today!
